Samsung announced that its Blu Ray Disk Drive was developed successfully, with each single-layer disk capable of storing up to 25GB. Utilizing shorter wavelength blue laser (405nm), focusing of the beam is done more precisely enabling it to record info in pits that are 0.16 microns long.

With this, Samsung joins other manufacturers taking the Blu Ray plunge. The drive comes in a sleek black and silver design. On a dual-layer disk, you can store nearly 50GB (but I bet you already guessed that) - equivalent to four hours of HDTV.

The drive is firmware-upgradeable. Internal and external Blu Ray drives will be launched by Samsung this year. No pricing or availability is claimed at this moment. For details, access Samsung's website. No pics posted yet.
