RTX_PortalPhone.jpgRTX America has just announced the PORTALphone - the first ever hybrid phone that combines Internet telephony (VoIF), standard telephony both in a cordless phone form factor.

The RTX PORTALphone also allows users to access news, local traffic and weather reports, stock portfolios, entertainment, personal address books, buddy lists, and instant messages. You can view all this data on the phones color screen.

It supports SIS-based VOIP and operates on the newly opened 1.920-1.930GHz "DECT 6.0" Spectrum to provide a WiFi-friendly secure wireless connection for up to six cordless headsets.

Expect the phone to be available in the second quarter of 2006 at selected INternet Telephony Providers. Pricing has yet to be announced. http://www.rtxamerica.com/
