Macro photography at 1 cm is possible with the Ricoh Caplio R40. With a .007-second shutter release time lag (somebody is a James Bond fan out there at Ricoh), this high-speed response is highly appreciated. What's more, the camera resets itself for the next shot in just half a second.

The preview LCD monitor offers a 153,000 pixel display, so during playback, your images look more detailed than before. The Caplio is a slim model at just 26mm - thanks to the double-retracting lens system, they even managed to stuff in a 5.7x optical zoom lens inside the slender body.

There is no mention of an anti-shake system in place, but the camera features eight scene modes and three continuous shooting modes. You can also shoot videos with sound on the Caplio R40. On a full charge, Ricoh claims you can shoot as many as 350 photos.
