Plextor has released a new ultra-portable DVD+/-R/RW CD-R/RW multi-drive, the PX-608U. The new PX-608U is also the smallest ever CD/DVD drive to come from the stables of Plextor and is targeted mainly at professionals on the go who need to make and create DVD-based presentations and multimedia slide shows.

With dimensions like 5.43 inches x 6.38 inches x 0.87 inches and a total weight of less than one pound, carrying this baby around won’t be a problem! It may be small but it sure packs a punch with its 5X DVD-RAM functionality for removable data storage applications and its drag-and-drop files functionality. By the latter I mean one doesn’t need any special burning application as on insertion of a blank disc, the system automatically formats the disc and assigns a drive letter.

The PX-608U is capable of speeds of 8X DVD+/-R on single-layer media, 4X DVD+/-R on Double-Layer and Dual-Layer (DL) media, and 5X DVD-RAM. Via the onboard Hi-Speed USB interface one is able to hook up to a PC in seconds and a 4.7 GB DVD+R disc can be burnt in just 6 minutes. 8X DVD+RW, 6X DVD-RW, 8X max DVD-ROM, 24X CD-R/RW/ROM and DVD+/-VR are also supported by the drive and it also features a 2 MB buffer and Buffer Underrun Proof Technology.
