Pioneer AVIC-S1 GPS
More GPS news today. Pioneer has unveiled their new automobile GPS receiver, called the AVIC-S1. An interesting thing about the AVIC-S1 is that it uses Microsoft Windows CE under the hood.
GPS capability is provided by an SiRF III chip, and it's about as accurate as the next SiRF III-powered navigation device. As with most other in-car GPS devices, the AVIC-S1 offers a touchscreen interface. The screen displays in QVGA (320 x 240 pixels) resolution.
The AVIC-S1 is pre-loaded with maps of Europe on the integrated 2GB flash memory. No idea if or when this will hit the US markets. It also offers Bluetooth functionality allowing you to use a cellphone to dial a POI (point-of-interest). You can choose one of the 17 language interfaces.
Other features include:
- Search by: Addresses, POI, in the vicinity, postal code, on chart, centre town.
- Options routes, points of passages
- Pedestrian roads
- Information on speed limit
- 3D Map View
