pioneeravic-usa.jpgAs the Personal Navigation System market continues to rise, Pioneer adds fuel to the fire with the unveiling of the Pioneer AVIC-D3 In-Dash Navigation System. The small (7 x 4 inches) device has a 6.1 inch touchscreen, and has so many features that it hurts just to list them.

First of all, it is a navigation system, with mapping and guidance for the entire United States and Canada. This includes detailed mapping and lane information in 50 major cities. Over 11 million points of interest (POI) including ATMs, gas stations, hotels, and restaurants are overlaid into the maps.

Not only is it a navigation tool, but it supports audio and video. Compressed audio formats included MP3, WMA and AAC are all compatible for you to listen to your tunes on the way to wherever you are going. The DVD player and video playback option are also good to have for those younger travelers in the backseat, looking for something to do on the way there. You also have the option of hooking up your iPod to the unit, and playing your favorite tunes on demand!

The device is also Bluetooth capable. This means that any Bluetooth-enabled cell-phones can be synced with the system for hands-free conversation. The Pioneer AVIC-D3 has internal speakers and a microphone for calls on the road, and it will automatically display the number of an incoming call as well. The navigation system has an internal phone book, so you can store and dial numbers through the touch display.

There are also optional features available for this product. For example, the traffic tuner, GEX-P10XMT and subscription to XM NavTraffic service alerts you of current traffic incidents as well as traffic flow conditions. This information is directly placed on the map in real time, and will even suggest alternate routes to avoid the traffic. Another optional feature is the XM Satellite Radio, which has more than 170 digital radio channels of commercial-free music, sports, news, talk, and other entertainment. Both of these optional features are available through subscription for $16.94 a month.

The Pioneer AVIC-D3 In-Dash Navigation System is slated to ship sometime in March of next year. No word yet as far as the price goes.
