Panasonic Toughbook W4Another rugged notebook on the horizon, the new Panasonic Toughbook W4 features a 12.1" anti-glare LCD for outdoor use and is available in a magnesium alloy case and comes default with 512MB RAM, a 40 gig hard drive, DVD/CD-RW combo drive and wireless access with 802.11a/b/g support.

The memory can be upped to a maximum of 1GB, which is not so great. The W4 has an easy-access wireless LAN on/off switch, so you can turn it off for saving battery. Oh, and the battery life is pretty good too - 6 hours on the full charge (I'm guessing this is if you don't use Wi-Fi). While the hard drive comes with shock mounts, a removable hard drive is provided with the Toughbook as well.

Like its bigger cousin the Toughbook T4, the W4 comes in an ultra-slim form factor measuring just 1.0"/1.8" x 10.6" x 8.3" and weighs just 2.8 pounds, which is like just over a kilogram! Bundled with Windows XP SP2.

The Panasonic Toughbook W4 has an estimated street price of US $2,149 and more info can be had at Panasonic's website. It has started shipping through several resellers in the USA.
