Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ3 Digital CameraIt's been a while since I operated a Panasonic camera. Of course, that wouldn't stop them from releasing the new Panasonic DMC-LZ3 5 megapixel digital camera. The camera implements Panasonic's MEGA Optical Image Stabilization, which moves the lens ever-so-slightly to compensate for minute hand movements, providing for non-blurry images.

The DMC-LZ3 carries a 2.0" preview LCD and 6x optical zoom. It comes with Panasonic's Oxyride AA batteries - guaranteed to delivery longer life than standard alkaline batteries. Coupled with the Venus Engine Plus (a processor that manages image capture and energy use for the camera), you can get up to 250 images with the LZ3.

It presents the user with as many as 14 different scene modes, making it appealing to amateurs. On board, you find 14MB of memory, and the camera takes in SD memory cards.

Priced at US $229.95, the Panasonic DMC-LZ3 digital camera is slated for a March 2006 release. More info from Panasonic's website.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ3 Digital Camera Features Include:

  • High Sensitivity Mode (up to ISO 1600) : In most situations Mega Optical Image Stabilization is all you need for crisp, sharp shots. But sometimes, in a dark setting or when the subject is moving, shooting at a faster shutter speed is required for truly great results. That?s why this digital camera offers a High Sensitivity Mode. When combined with OIS, this remarkable shooting mode allows you to shoot at up to ISO1600. And that means stop-action clarity in nearly any situation.
  • Widescreen 16:9 Mode for Panoramic Images : This wonderful feature lets you shoot images in widescreen (16:9 aspect ratio), so that you can achieve bold, panoramic images that are perfect for dramatic, wide prints. Plus, you can view photos as full screen images on your widescreen TV.
  • Snap Off Consecutive Shots at 3 Frames per Second! : You can take up to 5 images in Standard Mode and 3 images in Fine Mode with full resolution. In addition, the Unlimited Consecutive Shooting function lets you continue shooting until the memory card or built-in memory is full. All this is made possible by the Venus Engine Plus, which reduces power consumption by about 50% compared with our previous Venus Engine™. The multi-task image processing in the Venus Engine™ Plus LSI has accelerated response speed, giving you more comfortable shooting with a release time lag of 0.008 second minimum.
  • 6x Optical Zoom in a Compact Body : Use the 6x optical zoom (without the extended optical zoom) together with the 4x digital zoom to enjoy up to 24x zoom power.
  • Two Convenient Power Sources--Alkaline or Rechargeable Batteries : Our camera can be powered by two AA alkaline or two rechargeable nickel-metal hydride (Ni-MH) batteries. We've included two Panasonic Oxyride™ batteries that allow you to take up to 235 photos. Alkaline batteries let you take about 175 photos and nickel-metal hydride batteries allow up to 390 photos.
  • Built-In Memory--Shoot Even When You Don't Have an SD Memory Card : Take photos even when you don't have an SD Memory Card on hand. The built-in memory holds up to 14MB of image data, which you can later upload to an SD Memory Card or PC. You can also download images from a memory card or PC to the built-in memory, and view them on the LCD anytime you like.
