CF-30_01.jpgThe Panasonic Toughbook series isn’t for ordinary computing mortals! Infact these notebooks pretty much live up to their names as Panasonic has always targeted them to law enforcement agencies and for other onsite usage. Now there is a new model on the horizon to continue the Toughbook legacy.

The Panasonic Toughbook CF-30 notebook was recently unveiled at the International Association of Chiefs of Police conference and this one aint just tougher, but also brighter! The CF-30 has a 1,000 Nit display on it, thus making it extremely readable even in bright daylight. Infact the LCD is also moisture and dust-resistant.However its sweet spot is its 3G capabilities which will definitely attract attention! The CF-30 will come with optional integrated radio modems to access UMTS/HSDPA-based solutions from Cingular Wireless and the EV-DO networks of Sprint or Verizon.

The Toughbook 30 is powered by the Intel® Centrino Duo Mobile Technology and is housed in a magnesium case for added protection. This tough cookie also has integrated 802.11 a/b/g wireless LAN and has been tested for ruggedness. It comes Genuine Windows® XP Professional and includes a floppy drive too! Something which is amiss in all the new crops of computers.

Weighing around 8.2 lbs, this one aint exactly fragile and as a precaution, Panasonic has also incorporated a shock mounted removable hard drive. The base model comes with 512MB of RAM and a 60GB Hard Drive. One can also opt for enhancements like EVDO and HSDPA connectivity and a GPS receiver. As of now there is no word on availability but the base model will be available at an estimated street price of $4,699.00. The notebook is also on display at Police conference in Boston.
