Panasonic unveiled the new 500 NIT displays in select Panasonic Toughbook rugged series of notebook computers. The Toughbooks are used primarily in military, public safety and commercial applications, and the bright 500 NIT displays enhance the visibility outdoors, with the display being around 250-300 percent brighter than commercially available notebooks.

Those who need to work mostly outdoors - police, fire and emergency medical professionals, military and field technicians - in daylight will be vastly benefited thanks to the 500 NIT displays. Conventional notebook LCDs, though very good when using indoors, fail to impress the user in daylight.

Toughbook models sporting the 500 NIT displays include Toughbook CF-29 Rugged Notebook, encased in magnesium alloy, and Toughbook CF-18 Rugged Convertible Tablet, a notebook/tablet PC convertible for ease of use thanks to digital pen input.
