After all the talk, speculation, and frequent updates, this isn't news anymore but hey its the first the time things are official and all so here it is one last time. As expected in time for CES 2006, Palm and Verizon today announced the Palm Treo 700w Smartphone - bringing together two worlds that were once distinctly apart.

The Palm Treo 700w is designed with Verizon's EV-DO (Evolution Data Optimized) network in mind. This means users will be able to get faster download speeds for downloading of data, large email attachments, and for surfing the net wirelessly (not to be confused with WiFi).

It runs on Windows Mobile 5.0.2, and offers a whole suite of familiar Windows software, including Microsoft Office Mobile, Internet Explorer and Windows Media Player Mobile. It can also access Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 for syncing with corporate email networks for example.

Hardware-wise the Palm Treo 700w is built on a 312MHz Intel XScale processor, with 128MB of internal storage - that's non volatile memory which means a dead battery doesn't mean lost data. It also features 1.3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth 1.2, a SDIO compatible SD/MMC expansion card slot and a 240x240 TFT color touch screen.

The phone will be available from Verizon Wireless starting tomorrow for $399.99 with a $100 rebate for a two year tie-in.
