Olympus m:robeOlympus has announced that it will be halting production of their digital music player product line and would also shift their focus away from compact digital cameras to higher end SLR digital cameras to boost their profitability.

I'm not surprised that Olympus has decided to kill their music player business - it just didn't make sense to me why they would enter it when there were already so many other players in the market. As nice looking at the m:robe players were, they really didn't offer anything more than a pretty face.

The other important news item from the Olympus announcement is the fact that they will be shifting their focus away from compact digital cameras and towards digital SLR cameras. D-SLR's have higher price points which means higher profit margins than the compact line.
