Olympus Corporation (Olympus) and Panasonic, will display digital cameras that they have developed together at PMA 2006. These cameras conform to the Four Thirds System. While Olympus will display the new E-330, Panasonic will announce its first DSLR the DMC-L1.

Both Olympus and Panasonic agreed to develop technology and key components in accordance with the Four Thirds System and in January 2005. A mirror box unit and Live CMOS sensor is seen in both the cameras which takes the SLRS capabilities a step further. A quicreturn mirror, viewfinder, and AE sensor are all incorporated in the mirror box and the Live CMOS sensor offers image quality higher than the CCD sensor consumes powelower than a CMOS sensor. This makes viewing of images on the LCD last longer as low battery is consumed. The Olympus E-330 offesfull-time Live View framing via a rear-mounted LCD monitor and sports a style which is new to the digital world.

The Panasonic DMC-L1 uses Live MOS sensor and proprietary Venus Engine III image-processing LSI for high processing and greater image quality. It also combines the operational feel of an analog camera and is extremely user friendly.
