skype-phone.jpgNetgear and Skype have teamed up to deliver the world's first Wi-Fi mobile phone using which one can make domestic and international VoIP calls for free. For a small fee, you can also call non-Skype users. The Netgear Wi-Fi phone does not require a PC thus enabling one to make a call from any place where a Wi-Fi connection is available - such as Starbucks.

With the increasing presence of Wi-Fi hotspots, the Netgear phone can be a cost effective solution to make telephone calls anywhere in the world. As soon as you switch it on, the Skype software in the Netgear phone prompts you for your user-id and password. Once the correct credentials are entered, the Skype phone pulls the user's contact details from the internet and also displays the signal strength and connection status. After the connection is established, you can make calls, chat with other Skype users and join or host a conference call.

The Netgear Skype Wi-Fi phone is available for demo at the CES this year.
