NEC LaVie G Type J BlackYep. That's what NEC's new laptop is being called. We'll just refer to it as the LaVie. So, what does the LaVie have that would make you want to own one? How about the fact that it weighs just a kilo (1066 grams to be exact)? Or the fact that it's battery is rated to last for six hours? If that still has not convinced you, maybe that fact that only 200 units of this black-colored limited-edition laptop are to be manufactured, will.

Under the hood, the LaVie has the Intel Pentium M 753 1.2GHz ultra-low voltage processor with Intel's SpeedStep technology, 768MB (an odd-ball for sure) of main memory, an 80GB hard-disk, wired and wireless (a/b/g) connectivity, and runs Windows XP Pro SP2 Japanese. Display is on a 12.1" TFT LCD. Here's the funny part. There's no DVD/CD drive in the package (explains the weight loss?). You have to buy one separately. Sounds crazy to me. Who in their right mind would want to buy a laptop without a DVD/CD drive?

The launch date is set for February 28th in Japan. Price including tax is 199,794 Yen. There's a three-year warranty being thrown in as well. Skip this one is my advise.
