For iDEN fans, there's good news. Motorola unveiled its latest iDEN baby, the Motorola i580, in a new rugged yet stylish design. Designed to meet military specifications, you are safe from rain or dust. Under the hood, it's just like any other multimedia phone out there today, and boasts Bluetooth, an MP3 player and a 1.3 megapixel camera.
Ever since Motorola devised the iDEN (Integrated Digital Enhanced Network), they have put out numerous phone models, and the Motorola i580 is the latest addition which takes a deviation from the regular phones. The rugged rubber over mold makes it durable for all-day almost anywhere.
The Motorola i580 brings a host of new features to iDEN handsets, with a slew of push-to buttons. The Push-To-Smart reply feature allows you to discretely send SMS messages using PTT (Push To Talk), while the Push-To-Meet allows you to schedule reminders on the handset and share them with other i580 users - again via PTT. With so many push-to features, Moto has also included Push-To-X (PTX) Manager where you can control the other Push-To features from a single place.
Accessibility is one of the best I've seen in a long time in this phone, with Voice Playback for the visually impaired: a simulated voice guides the user in navigation the phone menus as well as place/receive phone calls.
Of course, standard iDEN features are available on the Motorola i580 as well, including Selective Dynamic Group Call (SDGC), MOTOTalk and two-way radio enabling near-instantaneous communication throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Peru and Brazil.
The base memory can be expanded using a microSD memory card - should be good for storing voice memos and downloaded apps. It also features an integrated speakerphone. Expect the Motorola i580 iDEN handset to appear in Q2 of 2006. Check out Motorola's website for details.
