Rand McNally and Motorola announced that they will together manufacture a GPS navigation system for cell phones. Their agreement terms include Rand McNally integrating Motorola's VIAMOTO navigation software in a Rand McNally branded mobile navigation system.

It will actually be a downloadable mobile app, and will be considerably less expensive compared to traditional in-car navigation systems. With a plethora of devices out there, Motorola are doing the right thing by implementing navigation onto the mobile device. As long as you have less baggage to carry with you on a road trip, I'm all for it.

The service will be subscription-based, with a low monthly fee - for which you get turn-by-turn voice guided navigation systems. It will be available from select carriers on compatible Moto handsets. No details on the availability yet. Access Rand McNally.
