Nintendo DS MP3 Player

3710-nitendomp3.jpg

That’s right, the Nintendo DS will soon be able to play music. How is this possible? A special cartridge that can accept SD memory cards, and from there it will locate and play MP3 files. The player will come with a 512MB SD card, but users can use ones of larger capacity. Unfortunately, video files are completely incompatible. Too bad, so sad.

This function will also be available for the Game Boy Advanced and the Game Boy Micro, and looks like it will lead to a complete repackaging of the DS as we know it.

ASUS G2 & G1 Gaming Notebook Series

Twins.JPG

Those who are into World of Warcraft (WOW) and other Massively Mulitplayer Online Role-Playing Games (MMORPG) have finally had their prayers answered. Asus has released the G1 and G2, two laptop computers specifically designed with PC gamers in mind.

The difference between the G1 and G2 is only a matter of color and screen size. The G1 has a 15.4 inch screen with green Direct Flash lights on the side, while the G2 has red and a 17-inch screen. Both of them have a metallic, in mold decoration that prevents chipping. For gamers on the go, that is very important!

Internally, the G1 and G2 are very much alike as well. The only difference is that the G1 has WXGA/WSXGA color Shine LCD options and a 512 MB NVIDIA GeForce Go7700 graphics set, and the G2 has a WXGA display and a 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon X1700 card. Beyond that, they are pretty much the same inside and outside. You can choose from a vast array of Intel Core 2 Duo processors, up to 2 GB of DDR2 RAM, and up to 160 GB SATA hard drive.

These computers are ready to go wireless with 802.11a/b/g, as well as Bluetooth compatibility for linking with other wireless devices. Other features include Wireless Video Communication, which is a high resolution webcam and speaker built in the system itself that allow hands-free, wire-free communication and conferencing from one gamer to the other.

Another spectacular feature is the Interruption-free Live Information Update, which is an OLED side window that gives instant messages, system status, reminder alerts, and customized personal data that will assist the gamer with functions without taking away from the game.

Other features include a Light Scribe dual-layer DVD burner as well as a built-in 1.3 megapixel webcam. It also comes with a plethora of ports including video output, an Express Card slot, flash card reader, and many USBs.

Believe it or not, the Asus G1 and G2 are available as sets, each one includes a backpack and mouse combination. Well, there is no word when these will hit the market, nor the price, but it sounds like this is a gamers’ “must have”.

BattleZone PSP Game System Ships

931656_73130_front.jpg

Decades ago, back in the ancient eighties, a stand-up arcade game called BattleZone was released by legendary video game company Atari. The game used black-and-white graphics with green lines that somehow represented tanks, rocks, and other objects you were supposed to shoot. It was an unusual game, requiring you to stand on it and stare into a scope, as if you were in a tank. This was all part of the illusion, as your hands grasped two joysticks, you became a tank commander with the sole purpose of blasting other tanks. Controls were awkward, and first time players had to adapt quickly or get blasted. Needless to say, the game ate a lot of quarters.

Atari has released BattleZone to a new generation of PSP players. The graphics are a definite quantum leap from what they had before, and are quite photorealistic. It is set in futuristic and international military environments. You get to go through over ten worlds like ruined cities of Russia, jungles of China, desert canyons of the United States, Antarctica’s frozen tundra, and even the Canary Islands. The game puts you at the controls of highly maneuverable hover tanks, where you can use eight customizable team vehicles, plus a whole bunch of high-powered weapons.

Unlike the old-school BattleZone, this allows for multiplayer mode. In fact, the wireless mode allows up to four players to go head-to-head. Other methods of gameplay include Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Team Deathmatch, Hotzone, Knockout, and Fox and Hound. And yes, there is still single-player option as well, but don’t be afraid to challenge yourself against others.

Additional content is available for download onto your PSP through the official website, www.battlezonegame.com, where you can get news, leader boards, and exclusive online level builder tool that allows players to customize game maps. Battlezone is available wherever PSP games are sold, for about $40-50 USD.

Killzone:Liberation for PSP

KZLBoxArtboxart_160w.jpg

Sony Computer has announced the release of Killzone: Liberation for the PSP. Killzone: Liberation is the sequel to Killzone, a successful game for the PlayStation 2 that was released two years ago. It is anticipated that Killzone: Liberation will be much better on the PSP, with a third-person perspective, Wi-Fi functions, and all new environments.

In case you didn’t play the first Killzone, it kind of has a very modern warfare look to it. The sequel takes place in the same world as the first, a postmodern time where the ISA is at war with the evil Helghast. The Helghast are these guys that dress up like the Stormtroopers from Star Wars. Ruthless Helghast General Metrac (a human, apparently) has taken high-profile hostages in the City of Rayhoven. Hero Jan Templar is assigned to evacuate the city and rescue the hostages. In the game, you play Templar’s warriors, on mission of liberation. You can play in both online and offline modes, and have access to a great array of weapons and vehicles including tanks, sniper rifles, shotguns, and whatever else you can get the enemy with.

There are many different styles of gameplay as well. You can play alone, and, using the wireless feature, you can use two-player cooperative function for a single player mission. You can also have up to six players involved in games like Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Assault, and Capture the Flag.

Since Killzone:Liberation is designed by Guerilla, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios, you know that Sony is going is market and promote this game up the yin-yang. The game is rated “T” for Blood, Language, and Violence, and it appears that rating is justified with the moderate amount of blood visible from the screenshots. Killzone: Liberation should be available wherever PSP games are sold at a suggested retail price of $40-50 USD.

Gangs of London PSP Game

image.gif

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has announced that the North American release of Gangs of London will only be available for the Sony Play Station Portable (PSP) system.

The game itself is similar to the ever-popular Vice City. In Gangs of London, you can go through several missions to take you throughout modern-day London’s criminal underworld. The game is wisely rated M, for it uses gritty narratives along with graphic-novel style graphics that make it look like a full-color version of Frank Miller’s Sin City. Gamers can play single, or war with other PSP players.

The games features several modes of play. One of them is Story Mode, where you can choose a gang you want to lead and then go on missions in order to take over the Queen’s captial. Players can then engage in Gang Battle mode, which uses an interactive map as well as criminal strategies in order to defend or take more turf. There are many other surprises in the seven Free Roaming Modes which allow you to explore 25 miles of virtual London within the game. These modes allow a player a game with specific goals, and even allow mini-games like pub pool and darts.

Another interesting feature is that PSP Game Share will kick in to generate a new level that is unique to every PSP user. Players in this mode will have new missions, environments, characters, and even weaponry.

It sounds like Sony is predicting that Gangs of London will be quite a hit, and is obviously targeted toward those who are better off waging virtual turf wars then real ones. However, I can’t help but wonder why this is just being targeted toward the PSP. A game like this should be for the PlayStation 2, and maybe a cooler version for the PlayStation 3 when it finally comes out. Is this just a way to increase PSP sales in order to beat the rising sales of the Nintendo DS Lite? I wonder.

Sony PSP 2 Coming in March?

    PSP%202.bmp

Sony fans who are desperately awaiting the arrival of the PlayStation 3 may have to wait a long time for the PSP 2. PlayStation Magazine said that certain unnamed sources reported that the next generation of PSP will be available in Japan around March 2007. The next generation of PSP will not be named PSP 2, and will be a simple upgrade more than anything else.

For example, the UMD drive will be turned to a slot-loader. The built-in memory will be raised from 32MB to 8GB, and some have speculated that this increased memory may be part of a bigger plot for users to fill the PSP 2 with pay-per-downloads of some type. The PSP upgrade should be slimmer, and a new feature will be an Eye-Toy type camera.

The price is expected to stay the same at about $250 USD.

Sony PSP price cut might be coming

    psp2.jpg

Anyone who has a child that wants a Sony PlayStation Portable for Christmas will more than likely receive a gift from Sony Claus. Experts and financial analysts believe that the success of the Nintendo DSLite will inevitably cause Sony to reduce the average retail price of the PSP from $199.00 to $149.00. While the PSP has sold 20 million units since its release, the DS has sold 21 million units. The DS has had major hit games such as “Nintendogs”, “New Super Mario Brothers” (a definite Nintendo staple), and “Brain Age” (4 million copies worldwide). PSP has not come out with a big-hit game since “Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories”, but hopes to have another with another installment of the “Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories”. The DS Lite retails for about $129, but does not come with the movie-playing/video transfer options of the PSP. The possible reduced price could also be a result of the release of the PlayStation 3, coming this winter.
