Magellan 2200T: Drivers Steer Clear of Jams with Real-Time Traffic

Magellan, a leading global innovator of outdoor and vehicle navigation solutions, debuts its Magellan TrafficKit 2200t.jpg to provide optional real-time traffic services for the Magellan RoadMate 2200T at the CES 2007 show in Las Vegas. The Magellan TrafficKit is the first completely integrated real-time traffic solution for portable GPS devices. It attaches easily as a cradle with just one simple click.

The Magellan TrafficKit integrates a real-time traffic receiver and FM antenna, and includes additional ports for connectivity. The Magellan TrafficKit wirelessy transmits comprehensive NAVTEQ traffic data on a continuous basis. NAVTEQ gathers data from commercial traffic sources, police and emergency services, road sensors, cameras, government departments of transportation, and airborne reports. The receiver processes the real-time traffic information and displays icons on the Magellan 2200T RoadMate GPS map screen to show traffic jams and other conditions that impede normal flow of traffic.

The Magellan TrafficKit comes with three months of traffic service for free, after that the renewal fee for a yearly subscription is US $59.99. The Magellan RoadMate 2200T (US $499) is the first rugged, expandable, advanced IPX-4 waterproof vehicle nav system that is upgradeable to provide outdoor navigation capabilities for hiking, off-road excursions and more.

Magellan CrossoverGPS - First Car Navigation Device with Complete Outdoor GPS Functionalities

Those in attendance at the London Boat Show will get a sneak preview of the new Magellan CrossoverGPS, the first car navigation device with complete outdoor GPS functionalities. It features a rugged, waterproof design to bring GPS capabilities for use in both your car and outdoors.

The CrossoverGPS combines car navigation features that have been featured in the popular Magellan RoadMate series of GPS systems, as well as the handheld outdoor fucntionality. It comes pre-loaded with both street and topographic contour maps.

On the road features of the CrossoverGPS include a 3-D bird's eye view map, SmartDetour feature to help get yourself out of traffic messes, and SayWhere audible directions. The device is also pre-loaded with over 2 million destination points, and has a built in mp3 player and photo view for added entertainment value. Users also have the option of adding real-time traffic data.

Off-road features of the device include the ability to change the SD card to switch from car navigation to outdoor activities, or you can use the pre-loaded topographic contour maps to create and go to waypoints or routes. The outdoor navigation mode also provides guidance for GPS coordinates of geographic locations, including latitude and longitude, and a compass screen.

The CrossoverGPS can also be used in Marine mode, which automatically changes to nautical miles for distance and knots for speed. The compass screen shows the XTE (CrossTrack Error) and a Road Screen. This screen will show a black line that will direct the user to the choosen destination.

The Magellan CrossoverGPS system is compatible with all MapSend certifiable maps on SD cards, including topographic maps and BlueNav Marine charts. It has a nice 3.5" color display, 8 hours of battery life, and a Sports Guard sleeve for extra protection. Dimensions of the product are 12.5 x 8.5 x 2.6 cm, and weighs 235 grams (8.3 oz). The device will be available this month for less than $600.
