digilux3-001.jpgThe yet to be released DIGILUX 3 is Leica’s first integrated digital SLR and stands apart from the usual Leica systems thanks to the adaptation of the Four Thirds system. The DSLR draws it inspiration from Panasonic DMC-L1 however there some changes. For starters the DIGILUX 3 uses image processing adjustments which are different from L1 and have been defined by Leica themselves. The DSLR is equipped with a 7.5 megapixel LiveMOS sensor for a real-time live photo function and sports an energy-saving operating system.

The new digital Leica mirror reflex system camera comes with a LEICA D 14 - 50 mm ASPH (F2.8 - F3.5) lens with built-in optical image stabilization. The bayonet lens has a focal length range of 28 to 100 millimeters, thus making it extremely versatile. According to Leica the new DSLR is a perfect amalgamation of the new and the old. It promises the same performance and quality which have been associated with the legendary Leica SLRs. It is also equipped with a large 2.5“camera display with a resolution of 07,000 pixels ad comes with a 1 GB SD card.

The LEICA DIGILUX 3 may be a digital camera but it retains some of its trademark features like exposure ring on the camera and manual setting rings for aperture, zoom and focus. Thus Leica analog loyalists need not worry about adapting to a new digital system The new LEICA D VARIO–ELMARIT 2.8-3.5/14-50mm ASPH exchangeable lens has a maximum aperture of 2.8 and the built in image stabilization system ensures superior performance even in difficult shooting conditions.

The new LEICA DIGILUX 3 supports RAW and ISO Settings range from 80-1600. It comes bundled with 1 GB SD card, a mains battery charger, rechargeable battery and a complete software package (Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0 (PC)/3.0 (Mac), Quicktime Movie Player). No word on pricing or availability.
