Flybook VM Laptop

flybook_vm.jpg

Every once in a while, some new electronic product comes out with an innovative feature, and every product after it imitates it in some way. Take flat screen computer monitors, or cell-phone cameras, for example. Dialogue's Flybook VM Laptop may be the next big feature.

As you can see, their fold-out screen is an innovation above regular laptops. Instead of just folding it up, you can fold this one up, and out! That little telescoping arm allows you to raise and adjust the height. Now your laptop computer screen will be eye-level! (At least, a little closer to eye-level.) One obvious advantage is when you take the laptop on a plane, it will be easier to put on the tray table. No more of that annoying angle of the seat in its not fully upright position getting in your way.

Of course, it's not on the outside, but inside that's what counts. The Flybook VM comes with 30 GB included HDD, and 1GB Ram (2GB for more money). The CPU is an Intel Core Duo Yonah LV 1.66Ghz, and it comes with IEEE 802.11 a/b/g Wireless LAN as well as Bluetooth v2.0. The installed software includes Windows XP, Open Office 1.1.2, and Mozilla.

Besides the cool telescoping arm, there are still other great externals that I have not mentioned. The 12.1 inch LCD screen has a resolution of 1280 x 768, and 16:10 Wide. It also has a microphone, headphones, fingerprint reader, as well as a built-in stereo speaker. I haven't even mentioned the DVD-R DL and two USB ports. Not only that, it also comes in four colors! Choose from Silver, Black, Red, or Gold.

The Dialogue Flybook VM is available in late December for approximately $2,878.63. I must admit that the price is a lot higher than that of most laptops, but I'm guessing that soon every laptop will soon have the cool telescoping feature of the Flybook VM.

PC-Koubou's 17-inch Lesance CL706GW-C2D-GT Gaming Notebook

cl706gw-c2d-gt.jpgHere's one more reason to celebrate this holiday season if you are a gaming buff! PC-KOUBOU announced that its new 17-inch notebook, Lesance CL706GW-C2D-GT is available in BTO with a 17” display, a WUXGA resolution (1920x1200, Full HD) and a GeForce 7950Go GTX graphic card. Sadly though, this will only be available for our Japanese friends as of now.

The specs include Intel's 2GHz T7200 Core 2 Duo processor with the T7600 being optional. The base config comes with a 512MB VRAM, GeForce Go 7950GTX graphics, 2GB DDR2 memory and 100GB 5400rpm SATA disk. It also includes a 1.3Mpix webcam in the upper bezel, multi-format memory card reader and DVI, S-Video, and SPDIF outs. The disappointing thing though is that this 8.8 pound machine can only deliver a shocking 1-hour 40-minutes on battery. The notebook isn't the lightest one to carry around, but how many gaming notebooks are in the market? The gaming notebook is available in Japan at a price tag of 2,140 euros (for the T7600 with the 120GB hard disk).

Toshiba Dynabooks ss-s36-and ss-m30 Announced

toshiba2_02_s30.jpgMore notebooks news from the Toshiba Front! If the Satellite notebooks got an update, how could the Dynabooks stay behind? The Dynabooks are the company's light-weight notebooks and the latest additions include; the Toshiba Dynabook SS S30 and the Toshiba Dynabook SS M36.

Since mobility is the keyword here, both notebooks are equipped with a high resolution 12.1 inch display and loaded with Windows XP Professional (SP2). However it is the S30 which impresses us with it 13 hours battery life which is possible due to the slow-spinning 4,200 rpm 30GB hard drive and Core Solo U1300 processor. Thus the S30 is an ideal notebook for those on the road! Other features include; 12.1 WXGA polysilicon liquid crystal, Intel 945GM Express , 512MB RAM, Wi-fi, LAN and 3 USB Ports. Prices start from $2,300 and it will be available from next month.

The Dynabook SS M36 may not have a whopping 13 hour battery life, but is it superior to the S30 where specs are concerned. This one draws it juice from an Intel Core 2 Duo T5500 Processor and includes features like; 12MB RAM (up to 2GB), a 40GB hard drive, and a combo CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive. Users can also opt for a Celeron Processor if money is an issue and this too will see a December release. Prices start from $1,700 for the Core 2 Duo Configuration.

Clevo M590KE SLI Notebook

The notebook can be assembled either with a single or dual core AMD Turion processor and up to two gaming or workstation graphics cards in SLI configuration for up to 1GB of graphics memory.

Featuring a 20.1” Glossy WSXGA+ LCD (1680 x 1050) screen, it gets a powerful Up to Twin NVIDIA GeForce Go 7950 GTX 512 MB or Quadro FX Go 2500M 512MB graphics cards in SLI. This in turn is backed by a mammoth 2.8GB DDR2-667 RAM. Weighing around 15.2Lbs, this is certainly the not most easiest to carry around, but it makes up for that in the spec sheet and just gives you a hint that its not called a desktop replacement for no reason. The secondary storage includes 8x DVD+/-RW Dual Layer DVD Burner, up to 2x SATA HDDs in RAID 0 or RAID 1 and on the connectivity side it gets, 802.11a/b/g & Bluetooth Technology, 5x USB 2.0 Ports & Firewire, DVI-Out & S-Video Out, 4-in-1 Card Reader, Serial Port, Headphone, and Microphone Jacks.

Lenovo X60 Review

ThinkPad_X60.jpgThe Lenovo ThinkPad X60 Tablet PC has been reviewed by Tablet PC Review and let's see what the experts have to say! They dig the X60 for goodies like ; its battery life, its overall performance, its solid casing, its wireless communication offerings, the onboard feature set which includes Active Rotate, NavDial and MultiTouch and the number of ports which are pretty decent for an ultra-portable. However the X60 is not perfect and they were not impressed by its plain looks, the onboard speakers and the fact that it lacks an optical drive built-in.

The Lenovo ThinkPad X60 Tablet PC is an ultra-portable lappy/tablet which boasts of a 12 inch XGA MultiTouch display and draws it juice from an Intel Core Duo processor T2400. One also comes across features like embedded wireless antennas to access wireless wide area networks and 3G networks, DDR 2 SDRAM, a 60GB Serial ATA HDD, WiFi, Gigabit Ethernet, a fingerprint reader and support for PCI Express architecture.

The review ends on a positive note "The engineers at Lenovo really put their thinking caps on for the past year in developing the new X60 Tablet PC, the focus was certainly on usability and how to improve the tablet experience. I think they hit a homerun. The XGA MultiTouch display and SXGA+ offering are outstanding options, the MultiView is also really nice for a tablet pc where you'll be using it in all types of lighting environments and holding it at various angles. The port selection for an ultraportable is superb. The keyboard is as good as ever. The build is ThinkPad solid, there's no flex anywhere on the body. The battery life is as good as it can be. And best of all the performance with the Core Duo and 2.5" 7200RPM hard drive is vastly improved over the X41t. Pricing starts at around $1,700 initially on the X60t, this will be pricey for some, but for business users this could be a formidable tool and if you're off to college for 4 years maybe you could justify the cost if you think of it as an investment in your ability to perform better in school and be more efficient."

Sony Vaio C15 is very budget friendly

Sony Vaio C15 is very budget friendly

The problem with Sony Vaios is that they burn a small hole in your pocket. No, I'm not talking about faulty batteries, but the steep prices. Well, the budget-conscious can now look forward to the new Sony Vaio C15.

Recently announced in Taiwan, the C15 features a nice 13.3" screen and is powered by an Intel Core 2 Duo T5500 1.66GHz processor. It's low on RAM (only 512MB), but at least Sony managed to put in an Nvidia GeForce 7400 graphics card on this one.

Other essentials on the Vaio C15 include an 80 gig hard drive, a Memory Stick reader (but what else?) and a claimed battery life of 4 hours. It carries a price tag of NT $39,800 (approximately US $1,200) and, although a bit heavy at 5 pounds, is definitely easy on the wallet.
