The new Kyocera Cyclops cell phone will be made available to Virgin Mobile customers in the USA. Featuring a trendy clamshell design, the Cyclops comes in a red-and-white body. Weighing in at 3.5 ounces, it is very lightweight and easy on the eye.

Cyclops comes with a healthy 1.3 megapixel camera, and is capable of TXT Tones - a feature that allows users to program a short song clip that alerts incoming text messages received on the handset. I'm sorry, what? Hasn't this feature been there like forever? (But then again, I guess I have been a little too spoiled by my Nokia 3650).

The FCC announced a new yet simple CDMA clamshell phone, the Kyocera KX9d. It features organization tools such as voice notes, organizer, alarm clock, calculator, and stop watch. The voice function includes voice recorder, voice dialing and speakerphone for conferencing. It seems like a bored type of mobile but luckily you will still be able to download melodies, games and images into the phone. Kyocera KX9d has two types of batteries, a 850 mAh standard battery and an extended 1500 mAh battery. No words on the availability and pricing yet.

Kyocera Wireless Corp, a leader in wireless consumer products has announced a new clamshell phone with a dedicated music player. The tri-mode CDMA Kyocera K822 was first shown at the recently held CTIA Wireless in Las Vegas and is a mid range phone with audio playback with dedicated keys on the outer body of the phone just beneath the 4k color CSTN external display.

The Kyocera K822 also features a brilliant 1.9" 262k internal color screen and has a 1.3 mega pixel camera which promises vivid and brilliant images. It includes support for MicroSD cards for music storage and can playback audio formats like MP3/AAC/AAC+. One can enjoy flawless audio either thru the provided headsets or the built in speakers. Some other features seen on the phone include a FM tuner, Bluetooth 1.2 (with A2DP stereo headset support) and an infrared port. No word on availability but it should carry a price tag of US$140.

All right, it's finally here! Kyocera's much-awaited Kyocera KX160 camera phone debuted today through Cricket.

Kyocera KX160 is a spiffy CDMA phone sporting a VGA camera with flash and digital zoom, a dedicated camera button for quick shots, self-timer option, and even auto-focus. With Cricket offering unlimited picture messaging in its rate plans, expect to click a lot more photos.

Touting affordability as the key factor, the KX160, which we briefly saw on The Whack some time back, is equipped with large, vivid color displays both on the inside (128 x 160 pixels) and outside (96 x 64 pixels). The picture caller ID aids in quicker recognition of who's calling.

Thanks to Bluetooth technology, you can go hands-free as well as wire-free at the same time. This BREW 2.1 phone, compatible with CDMA2000 1X, allows users to access Cricket Clicks for downloading wallpapers, games and ringtones over-the-air. The WAP 2.0 browser is useful for accessing websites on the phone.

Kyocera has launched the new Xcursion KX160 clamshell CDMA phone. It comes with a VGA camera with flash, 5X digital zoom and external camera buttons. The handset also comes with two displays: an internal display at 128x160 pixels and an external one at 96x64 pixels.

The camera, although supporting just VGA res pics, has some neat features that include multi-shot, timer, color effects and fun frames for easy picture editing.

The platform under the hood is BREW 2.1, and it supports Bluetooth wireless technology (although it is not clear which Bluetooth profiles are supported). The phone also comes with built-in software like tip calculator, countdown timer, stopwatch, world clock and voice memos, so this is good news for consumers looking for a phone with a couple of useful PDA functionalities thrown in.

It comes with a 32MB microSD card, standard 3.5mm stereo headphones (thank god), and to help transfer files, a USB cable. Incorporating some of the hot-selling goodies like camera (although it's just VGA right now), video recording capabilities, MP3 and WMA playback, it comes with a 1.9" display and claims of 3.7 hours of talk time.

Convergence is the buzz word, there's no denying that. Kyocera could have, however, included a higher-resolution camera. At the current market situation, it really doesn't make sense to include just a VGA res camera anymore, unless you are targeting for mass market consumers.
