HP nc6140 Notebook PC
Check out HP's new HP nc6140, which relies on Verizon's EV-DO network for broadband connectivity, instead of the traditional Wi-fi found in most notebooks. It is equipped with dual antennae and bundled software that makes it easy to configure and enjoy Verizon's BroadbandAccess network.
While Wi-fi hotspots typically have limited coverage area (unless you are in a city full of hotspots), EV-DO technology extends it as far as your cellular provider's area is covered - which makes it the natural choice for notebooks. Incorporating Qualcomm MSM6500 CDMA2000 1xEV-DO high-speed wireless chipset, you can experience download speeds of 400 to 700 kbps.
Of course, HP hasn't taken off Wi-fi from the notebook - it's still there, as well as Bluetooth technology. A HP Drivelock hard drive protection ensures your data stays secure, while the Mobile Data Protection System protects the drive from shocks.
Starting at 6 pounds, the HP nc6140 sports a 15" display with a wide viewing angle and full-sized keyboard. It is available now, with a starting price tag of US $1,399. The BroadbandAccess service is separate, starting at $59.99 per month. www.hp.com
