Hitachi Global Storage has announced their new 2.5-inch hard drive, the Travelstar 5K160 which is one of the most advanced mobile hard drives out there. It has the storage capacity of 160GB while operating at 5400rpm. It's a 2.5-inch hard drive designed specially for notebook and mobile computing applications. Hitachi has also announced that the same 'super pendicular" technology will be applied across the board on storage products including their next generation 1.8-inch hard drive which will be announced later in 2006. The 160GB of storage capacity is equivalence to 160 hours of standard video, 57 movies, 40,000 4 minutes songs or 80 video games. The 325G operating shock and 1000G non-operating shock HDD implement a Hitachi alloy combination and use of new PMR write head. It has an option mode for even quiet operation. Travelstar 5K160 will be available with the price of USD279.
