GlobalSat GV-201 All-in-One Navigation System
The CES 2006 saw GlobalSat introduce the GV-201, an all-in-one GPS device for your car. What does it mean when a GPS unit claims to be an "all-in-one" device? In the case of the GV-201, it means a convergence of GPS, music, and video functionality. Yes, the GV-201 can playback your favorite MP3, MP4, and video files. Does it mean it's now time to throw everything else out the car window? To round it all up, the GV-201 has a Bluetooth feature that will allow you to use a mobile phone through the unit's speakers. That's a crazy feature, if you ask me.
Feature wise, the GV-201 has a 4" 64K 320x240 color TFT LCD touch-screen. It runs on the car's cigarette lighter or on a built-in rechargeable battery (Li-ion 1300mAh). It has an SD slot where you can store maps and applications. It's quite portable measuring in at 135mm x 90mm x 24.8(29.4) mm and supports a dozen languages. For a complete list of features see the product website below.
Pricing and availability are yet to be announced. What's next by GlobalSat? The GV-301 with universal iPod compatibility? I certainly pray not.
