Gateway NS100X Ultra-Slim Notebook
Gateway, today unveiled NX100X notebook, an ultra-slim notebook weighing around just 3.15 pounds and measuring just about less than one-inch thick. This one though does justice to the "ultraportable" tag when compared to other notebooks in its class, but are the rest of its specs up to the mark? Lets take a closer look.
The Gateway NS100X features a 12.1-inch 1280 by 800 display and just a Core Solo processor, running at clock speeds of 1.06 or 1.2 GHz, which is a lot less for my liking considering the fact that even ultra-portable notebooks these days offer Core-Duo processors. But the NS100X notebooks offer a 1GB of RAM instead of a conventional 512MB, may be just to boost up the performance, but again as I said the processor speeds are way too low. With an on board Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950, gamers aren't going to find this system moving or exiting enough. On the features side though, the notebook offers 6-in-1 media card reader, Type II PC Card slot, USB 2.0, IEEE 13924 (FireWire), VGA output, integrated stereo speakers, gigabyte Ethernet, built-in modem, 802.11 a/b/g wireless, optional Bluetooth, and Windows XP professional, all to the better of the model or perhaps a consolation when you just reflect back on the processor speeds. But it all boils down to whether you are looking for a replacement for your desktop or another on the go productivity machine.
Gateway NX100X notebooks will begin shipping May 26, 2006 at a base price of $1,399. www.gateway.com
