Garmin GMR 404 and GMR 406 Sea Scanners
Huh Sea Scanners you say? Yes the next time you hit the deep blue sea, take the Garmin GMR™ 404 and GMR 406 along. These two powerful 4kW X-band digital open array radars promise excellent clarity, precision and target definition, so that you never get lost in the sea! While the GMR 404 has a 4-foot scanner with 1.8-degree beam width, the 406 sports a 6-foot antenna takes beam width down to 1.1-degrees. Data on both scanners are digital processed and they have a maximum range of 72 nautical miles. One can view the processed data on any of the chartplotter/multifunction GPSMAP® 3000 series displays.
The scanners have been ergonomically designed so that they are not an eye sore and complement any modern boat or yacht. The radar pedestal includes an innovative access panel for maintenance in the field and both radars feature overlay capabilities. The onboard MARPA (Mini Automatic Radar Plotting Aid) capability gives one access to info like bearing, course, speed and predicted closest approach. Options like automatic and manual sensitivity are also present on the scanners and the tuning controls include functions like gain, sea clutter, and rain clutter. Users can also subscribe to the XM WX Satellite Weather and XM Radio for accessing GPS, radar, sonar, and near real-time graphical weather data. The GMR 404 and GMR 406 will be available in August 2006 for $3599.99 and $4399.99 respectively. For more info visit Product Page
