FCC Approves Toshiba 1089 Portable Media Player

What's Toshiba up to? We found Toshiba's new device, identified only as Model 1089, approved on the FCC's website. A hard drive based portable media player, the device features a largish 3.0" TFT LCD display.

The 1089 is equipped with a 1.8" 30GB hard drive and a fast USB 2.0 connection to transfer files from your media collection. It comes with an integrated FM tuner.

But here's the best part: the 1089 is compatible with WLAN 802.11 b/g networks! That's right - you heard it here first. You can act as a DJ by using special modes available on the player. Friends with compatible devices can then tune in to what you are playing. The device is powered by a Li-ion battery, so we're still not sure how long it lasts when connected to a wireless network.

No word on pricing or availability for now. Here's a question: which one would you like to get your hands on first - the Toshiba 1089 or Microsoft Zune?
