Samsung SDC-MS21 Camera

ms212-1.jpgCameras these days are popping out like bunnies and the latest one to be exhibited at the IFA 2006 was the Samsung SDC-MS21 Digital Camera. This one also seeks out to be the perfect point and shoot for the casual and beginner photographer and is “Slim and Stylish” according to the good folks at Samsung.

We tend to agree with Samsung when it comes to the looks part and the Red sleek housing sure looks trendy! When it comes to features the digicam has the standard 6 MP resolution, the 2.5-inch screen, the standard 3x optical zoom, ISO 1600SD card slot, 640 x 480 video at 30 fps, However this one is also a MP3 Player which makes it win some extra brownie points in our books!

Samsung GX-10 Digital SLR Camera

Samsung GX-10 Digital SLR

Samsung introduced the third model in its growing range of digital SLR cameras, the Samsung GX-10, a 10.2 megapixel DSLR targeted at the advanced amateur and pro markets. The GX-10 has a Penta Prism viewfinder that offers 95 percent wide field-of-view.

The GX-10 now incorporates mechanical OPS (Optical Picture Stabilization) to minimize image blur when the camera is not steady - especially in low-light conditions. The OPS system resides in the camera rather than the lens, and hence it can work with different lenses, including Pentax, KAF2, KAF and KA mount lenses.

Schneider D-XENON lenses will be sold with the body in kits. In fact, five new lenses have been announced by Samsung, which will be available by year-end. These lenses include:

  • 10~17mm F3.5-4.5 fish-eye zoom
  • 12~24mm F4 ultra-wide zoom
  • 16~45mm F4 wide zoom
  • 35mm F2 fixed focus
  • 100mm F2.8 macro lens

A unique intuitive dust-free CCD imaging sensor is equipped on the GX-10. This automatically vibrates the CCD sensor when the camera is switched on. The CCD sensor also has a special dust-resistant coating. Samsung has taken enough care to make the camera body resistant to unwanted elements, fortifying it with special seals and silicone to protect the camera from water and sand.

The GX-10 boasts a 11-point wide-area AF system, allowing AF-single or AF-continuous. Professionals will appreciate the one-touch RAW shooting button that enables them to capture photos in RAW format. It can then be converted to JPEG on the camera itself, eliminating the need for a PC all the time.

The camera includes a 3-mode metering system, including 16-segment multi-pattern metering, center-weighted metering and spot metering. It is equipped with a 2.5" 210,000 pixels LCD for previewing your images on the fly. While pricing has not been made available, the camera will hit stores in October 2006.

    Samsung’s T719 on T-Mobile

th_Samsung-t719-T-Mo_TN.jpgWell, it was about time someone made a Blackberry/phone that folds up like your average cell phone. After all, this is the age of compactness, and if something electronic doesn’t fold up, then it deserves to stay on the table or desk, plugged into the wall. Fortunately, Samsung has responded to this consumer desire.

The Samsung T719 can boast that it is the first Blackberry/phone that comes in clamshell format. This Quad-band GSM/EDGE phone has recently met FCC approval. It features a Sure Type keyboard, a 1.3 megapixel camera, voice-activated dialing, Bluetooth support, as well as other e-mail features.

T-mobile is definitely expecting to “get more” once this device launches, which retails for $299.99 and is available “soon”.

The Samsung Digimax S700 is a seven megapixel digital camera and sports a vibrant 2.4-inch LCD. The onboard zoom lens is capable of delivering an optical zoom of 3x in both movie and image mode. One cool feature on the digicam is no doubt the movie clip editing functions which lets one play with their clips and save them as images. The best part being that one doesn’t need a PC to edit the movies and can be done on the camera itself. Users will also dig the novel successive video function which pauses and resumes video recording and can merge video files on a single file.

They have thrown a number of cool features including the ability to edit movies or images on the camera itself. For editing images, users will find the Trimming function and the Resizing function pretty handy. Samsung NV3 Digital Camera

Samsung NV3 Digital CameraSamsung unveiled the new 7.2 megapixel digital camera, the Samsung NV3, equipped with a 2.5" preview LCD. The NV3 falls in the NV (New Vision) line-up of digital camers from Samsung, characterized by its sleek design.

Featuring revolutionary SHD optics, the Samsung NV3 doubles up as a media player on the go, thanks to the included audio/video playback software. Samsung's Digimax Converter ensures you can play not only MP3s but even movies on the camera. This doesn't change the fact that the NV3 is still a camera - and the body is built in the shape of one. But hey, who's going to argue with Samsung when it comes to convergence?

The NV3 boasts of Advanced Shake Reduction, a Samsung technology to ensure you don't shoot blurry images because of hand or subject movement. Eleven scene modes are available for both the amateur and pro photographer, including Fireworks, Beach and Snow. Samsung Pro 815 wins DIWA Gold Award

Samsung Pro 815 wins DIWA Gold AwardLast year we did a comprehensive review of the 8 Megapixel Samsung Pro 815 digital camera. You can read all of that here. What we did not predict then was the 815 winning the The Digital Imaging Websites Association (DIWA) Gold Award. Today that's what has just happened.

I think what clinched the victory for the Samsung Pro 815 is it's snappy 15x (optical) Schneider-Kreuznach Varioplan zoom lens - still the world record in terms of zoom power in a digital camera. Its rechargeable battery pack with 1900 mAh capacity at 7.4V remains unmatched. With three LCD viewfinders, a gorgeous 3.5" LCD-screen, an electronic viewfinder, a 235K color capability, a sophisticated hybrid AF system with nine focusing points and a powerful AF assisting lamp, user friendliness, and a host of other innovations in image shooting, the Samsung Pro 815 had a lot to fall back on.

Kai Thon, DIWA's test manager comments: "The technical specifications alone prove that Samsung aims high with its Samsung Pro815. However, in today’s marketplace, a camera must also deliver in real life. A number of DIWA experts have tested the Pro815 to its limits and they all reported much higher scores than expected. Not only does the Pro815 handle well, it also performs like a professional camera, much thanks to its astonishing Schneider-Kreuznach 15x zoom lens and Samsung’s much improved image processor."

Good job Samsung. You have just pushed the pedal to the medal.

    Samsung GX-1L Digital SLR Camera

Samsung GX 1L Digital SLR CameraSamsung is determined to be bigger and better in 2006 when it comes to digital cameras. After the Samsung GX 1S, they now make an entry into the exclusive and profitable digital SLR market mostly owned by Nikon and Canon, with the spanking new Samsung GX-1L.

Boasting Schneider optics and a now-standard 2.5" big preview LCD, Samsung brought out the Samsung GX-1L through a partnership with Pentax. With a six-megapixel CCD the GX 1L uses a high-precision 16-segment multi-pattern metering and spot metering, while a 5-point autofocus sensor provides for accurate focusing.

Professionals can choose white balance levels and several available automatic shooting modes for great images. The lens used in GX 1L is a Schneider D-Xenon 18mm-55mm. One of the helpful things is that several Pentax DSLR lens can be used off-the-shelf with this camera.

A USB 2.0 interface is provided, while the Samsung GX-1L runs on 4 AA batteries. Thankfully, RAW images can be stored as well. While no pricing info is available yet, head to Samsung's website for further details. Check extended entry for specs.
