Dell, Apple, Now Panasonic Joins the Bad Laptop Battery Epidemic
First Dell recalled over 4 million laptop batteries due to its spontaneous combustion issues, then Apple recalls over one million Sony-made batteries. Now Panasonic has recalling certain Japanese models of the W4 due to battery issues. Details are not clear as far as what the problem is with the battery, but it might have something to do with what happens when smashing it on a table.
Even though this has only affected 6,000 battery packs, I’m certain that this will be the subject of much tech-gossip, not to mention Leno monologues. I would personally love to see a Tonight Show skit with a laptop orchestra playing the 1812 Overture: “Da-dit-da-dot-da-da-DA-DA-DA-BOOM!†And on the Boom, a laptop blows up. Somehow, I think I don’t think that laptop would be a Panasonic.
