CSR Enables The First MP3 Wireless Streaming In Samsung GSM Handsets
CSR has announced that Samsung has selected CSR's BlueCore silicon and software stack to bring Bluetooth connectivity to Samsung's GSM handsets. The Samsung SGH-E750 and SGH-E760 handsets use the BlueCore3-ROM and proprietary BlueCore Host software to offer Bluetooth wireless connectivity. In offering Bluetooth connectivity, the new handsets can wirelessly stream MP3 music to Bluetooth enabled headsets. The new Samsung headsets are expected to be out on GSM networks in Q4 of 2005.
Using the CSR BlueCore3-ROM chipset allows Samsung to support a variety of Bluetooth profiles from their handsets including:
It should be noted that the BlueCore3-ROM is the only Bluetooth technology available that natively supports MP3 due to its internal codec, software and DSP.
To support the wireless music streaming capabilities, the new handsets have to support the Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) and Audio Visual Remote Control Profile (AVRCP) which allows calls and music to be controlled by the Bluetooth headset.
In March 2005, CSR acquired Clarity Technologies Inc., for its Clear Voice Capture (CVC) technology that enhances the audio performance of any voice-based product or system. Applications for CVC include wireless headsets, handsets and automotive hands free systems.
In August 2005, CSR completed the acquisition of UbiNetics' software business, providing a strong R&D team to accelerate its existing software development in Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and UWB. The UbiNetics team givesCSR the capacity to extend its offering to mobile handset customers.
CSR has its headquarters and offices in Cambridge, UK, and offices in Japan, Korea, Taiwan, China, India, France, Denmark, Sweden and both Texas and Detroit in the USA.
