lowres_zenw_p2.jpgWell, one thing we can say about the Creative Zen Vision W, it is certainly a deserving 9 letters up from the Creative Zen Vision M. That one had a 2.5 inch screen. The version before the W had a 3.7 inch, and the Vision W has about a 4.3 screen.

Some sacrifices definitely had to be made in order to increase that screen by more than a half-inch. Part of it is the controls, which are barely visible on the front.

There is a sexy-looking pic of the Creative Zen Vision W in Popular Mechanics. As I looked at this pic, I couldn’t help but wonder that if the screen is indeed 4.3 inches, then I’m guessing the Portable Media Player must be pretty thick. I’ve heard complaints saying that these PMPs always say that they’re pocket-size, but they must assume that everyone wears carpenter’s pants.

Popular Mechanics also says that “it plays any video format we’ve thrown at it, from MPEG and AVI to various types of DivX”. It also says that it holds about 30-60GB, but I wish I knew what those figures mean in the actual time it would take a video to play on it.

Still, even if I could put the entire two seasons of Lost on the thing, there is still one thing missing. The screen is still too small! I realize that it’s nearly twice as big as what it used to be, but something tells me that watching too much on that tiny screen could be hazardous to my vision. I realize this is the generation that is accepting these PMPs with open arms, but let us hope that it does not lead to a rest home full of people with impaired vision.

The only way they could make the screen bigger is to put the control buttons on the other side. Or maybe they can make it so it folds out, so it’s twice as big. Maybe they’ll have the technology so you can fold it several times, so it’s like a roadmap that opens up to decent sized 19 inch screen! Let’s just hope that it’s easy to fold back up again.

The Creative Zen W should retail for approximately $399 for the 30GB, and $499 for the 60GB.
