Creative Xmod X-Fi
In this audio age of stereos and home theater systems, all audiophiles are one a quest for one thing: better sound. Creative’s new Xmod X-Fi audio processing technology promises to deliver just that.
It is especially designed for iPods and other MP3 players that deliver many songs in a portable package, but the quality is always diminished. The Xmod device, about the size of a candy bar, promises to turn MP3, WMA, and AAC files into sound that is better than the original CD source quality. In fact, Creative has boasted that the improved sound is studio quality, as if the artist is singing in front of you.
So how does it work? Apparently, it can enhance the low and high frequencies and improve the audio dynamics to achieve the cleaner, richer sound. The X-Fi Crystalizer upconverts MP3s by examining what parts of the sound has been damaged through compression, and then selectively restores them.
Not only can it improve compressed music files, but the Xmod can turn any music or movie audio into surround sound on any stereo speaker system. It uses X-Fi CMSS-3D technology to produce quality that surrounds the listener with a multi-channel speaker system. CMSS-3D also has the ability to place specific audio elements in the virtual sound center while the ambiance plays through the virtual surround channels. Therefore, you will hear all the sounds from the screeching tires, the busting glass, as well as the faintest whisper.
It is also very simple to use. All you need to do is plug it in between your computer or MP3 player and your speakers or headphones. Since it uses the USB, it’s a simple plug-and-play user-friendly procedure. Those that use the Xmod to connect to their portable MP3 player, you should know that you will need to use the included AC power adaptor.
The Creative Xmod should be available in October for a suggested retail price of $79.99 USD.
