Cingular Music Debuts

CingularMusic_01.jpg

Cingular Wireless is pleased to announce Cingular Music, which is a way of brining music on Cingular wireless phones from Napster, Yahoo! Music, XM Satellite Radio and eMusic. As the slogan says, it delivers "your music, your way".

Cingular had to team up with Microsoft in order to put Windows Media Digital Rights Management into select handsets, so customers can enjoy and subscribe music on a wireless phone. The are the first to distribute subscription music through the handset, and have created several other industry firsts.

Number one, they have the most comprehensive music subscription service of its kind ever offered by a wireless carrier in the United States. Number two, they are the first carrier in the United States to enable mobile portability of online subscription music content from Napster, Yahoo, and eMusic, which sells tracks the universally compatible MP3 format. Number three, they have a one-click access to a complete sit of music related content. Number four, and this is the big one, they offer the largest collection of mobile music content available on the handset from the leading online music retailers. Dang! What will they do for an encore?

The Napster subscription, available for $14.95 a month, allows a user to fill their phone from their PC from over 2 million tracks. Cingular and Napster intend to offer a free 60-day trial of this service. Yahoo Music offers its service for about $11.99 per month, and offers a free Yahoo! Music Jukebox which allows customers to play, rip, and burn MP3s from their PC. The eMusic looks like it is only available to users of the Sony Ericsson W810i or W300i, but will enjoy a free "in-box" offer to load up to 40 songs from over 2 million tracks. The XM Satellite Radio will offer mobile access to audio streams of 25 popular commercial-free music channels at a low price of $8.99 a month.

The Cingular Music contains several menus options. The Music Player is where users can access the phone's entire catalog of music, and create playlists from all the songs, as well as a random play feature. Shop Music is where users go to purchase or explore music content from the music providers. MusicID allows a user to identify a song, and then purchase that song by linking to the Napster library. Music Videos offers a direct link to video content from MTV, VH1, CMT, and even original video footage from Cingular Sounds Live (CSL) Concert Series.
Streaming Music is when users listen to various genres of music content from XM Satellite Radio or MobiRadio. The Buzz is where users access Billboard Mobile, a mobile music application that gives Cingular customers access to music and entertainment news. The Community feature is made up of artist fan sites and chat rooms, and you can contact them through SMS and IM. The last is Music Apps, the home for other new and exciting music applications, including Mobilcast, a podcasting service.

The service is intended to be offered on five phones, including the Cingular SYNC, LG CU500, Sony Ericsson W810i, Sony Ericsson W300i, and Cingular 3125. The cost of Cingular Music depends on how many music subscriptions you want.

Pantech C3 Miniature Cell Phone from Cingular

10715_large.jpg

In a world of really small technology, the Pantech C3 is the smallest flip phone camera. I realize that sounds like a really exciting movie preview, but this actually contains a grain of truth. It appears that Pantech has finally did it and invented the C3, the smallest flip phone/camera on the market, available from Cingular.

The phone measures at 2.72 x 1.69 inches, and it is one of the thinnest at 0.8 inches thick. I'm not really certain if something like that is big enough to fit between my mouth and ear, but if those Bluetooth earpieces can pick it up, why not this? Looks like it also features e-mail and instant messaging as well as the phone and camera modes, but who knows how it fits in such a small package? Looks like there's a little musical note there as well, so does it play MP3s? At this rate, nothing surprises me with cell phone technology anymore.

I found some information on other sites about the features, and listed them below. It also comes with removable faceplates, and I'm told that with all the rebates, you should be able to pick it up for about 40 bucks.

Palm Treo 680 Smartphone for Cingular Wireless Announced

overview_680_photo.jpgThere is a lot to admire about the new Palm Treo 680 quad-band smartphone. It has a phone, along with email, instant messaging, and Bluetooth. In fact, the Exchange ActiveSync program is designed to synchronize your calendar, email, as well as your contacts. The Blazer 4.5 browser makes surfing the net super, super fast. Other software features include the use of Mircosoft Word and Excel, in addition to Adobe PDF files and Microsoft PowerPoint presentations. You can also use the new smartphone as a wireless modem, as Bluetooth 1.2 technology connects your laptop wirelessly to the net. All of that is with a color touchscreen and QWERTY keyboard. Not only that, it has a camera, camcorder, calendar, photo viewer, and can be used as both an MP3 and video player. Clearly, what is not to like?

Oh, I almost forgot to mention: for a limited time, the Palm Treo 680 will come with a music bundle from Yahoo Music, which includes a 30-day free trial to its music service. That means that for one month, you have the access to over one million songs, and you can take them with you.

The Palm Treo 680 isn’t the only reason that Palm Inc. is celebrating. The Palm Treo will operate on Cingular’s nationwide EDGE network, and will be available in time for the holidays. I have somewhat confused about the price. The Palm online store appears to be selling the Treo 680 with four new colors (crimson, copper, arctic, and graphite) for $399, but the lowest I’ve heard it being available is for $199.99. Whatever the price, it feels like a good deal overall. The smartphone is sweeping the mobile phone industry, and it is estimated that one out of every four mobile phones will be a smartphone by the next decade. Is it possible that the Palm Treo 680 Smartphone will be leading the way? I wouldn’t be surprised.

LG CU400 for Cingular

LG CU400 for Cingular

Just noticed this spanking new LG CU400 cell phone for Cingular customers in the US. This is a quad-band GSM world phone and offers the advantage of 3G thanks to the cell phone's UMTS 850/1900MHz compatibility.

The CU400 features a TFT LCD running at 176x220 pixels resolution and offers 65k color. While not exactly targeted at being a multimedia phone, it does come with players to handle many of the audio and video formats. A VGA camera with 4x digital zoom is thrown in.

Measuring 85mm x 48mm x 23mm, the phone weighs in at 93 grams, so it's easy on the pocket. LG claims a talk time of 5 hours. Bluetooth is available on the CU400, with the following supported profiles: Headset (HSP), Handsfree (HFP), Dial-up networking (DUN), Generic Object Exchange (GOEP), File Transfer (FTP), Object Push (OPP), Generic Access (GAP) and Serial Port (SPP).

Pricing is not available at this time, but hopefully it should be out soon.

    Cingular Sync Review

sync-hands-on-1.jpgThe good folks at EngadgetMobile were lucky enough to get their hands on
the Samsung SYNC aka SGH-A707. The handset scored brownie points
for its ergonomics, its price tag, its superb voice quality, the vibrant display and its overall performance. EngadgetMobile listed the Bluetooth Connectivity as the SYNC's Achilles heel as they couldn't pair up a couple of devices with it.

The Samsung SGH-A707 is a HSDPA handset which is exclusively
available on the Cingular network. Basting of a smart clamshell
design, the handset includes features like; a 2 megapixel camera, a
media player, support for MP3, WMA, AAC+, RealAudio and streaming
audio. One will also dig the , touch-sensitive external controls
and its brilliant QVGA display. A2DP and microSD expansion are some
other features found on the SYNC.

The review ends on a positive note and this is what Engadget has to
say about the Cingular SYNC "Our very quick, knee-jerk reaction is that this
is a great phone, and for $50 after rebate, it's pretty tough to go
wrong. Depending on the N75's pricing, it could be facing some
pretty stiff upmarket competition in the near term -- and the
torrent of 3G hardware should be pretty consistent heading into
2007 (we hope). But as we sit here in early November 2006, we can
say with some confidence that this is the best bang for your HSDPA
    buck."

Samsung BlackJack i607 By Cingular Wireless and Microsoft

blackjack_official-1.jpgWhen a handset goes by the name of BlackJack you know it means business! The Samsung BlackJack i607 which has also been touted as the Moto Q Killer, now graces Cingular Wireless with its presence. Sporting a slim design (well as slim as smartphones go), the handset promises both functionality and style.

The Samsung BlackJack i607 runs on the Windows Mobile(R) 5.0 Operating System and thus users will have no problems using this baby. According to Samsung, the BlackJack i607 is a one stop solution to all entertainment and business needs. One major plus point is no doubt, the onboard 3G support , however this quad-band GSM and dual-band UMTS/HSDPA phone lacks wi-fi!

On the multimedia front, we come across features like; 1.3-megapixel camera , music playback, video recorder and playback and a microSD slot. There is of-course the now mandatory Bluetooth support and support to Cingular based services like; 3G-enabled BroadbandConnect service and the Cingular Music which is a music subscription service and includes content from Napster and Yahoo! The handset also supports Cingular Video which is an on-demand streaming video service featuring exclusive content such as HBO.

The BlackJack i607 is equipped with a large high-resolution QVGA color screen and QWERTY keyboard. It can also access business and personal email accounts through such solutions as Good Mobile Messaging, Microsoft Push Direct with Pocket Outlook and Cingular Xpress Mail. One can also indulge in activities like over-the-air synchronization of calendar, contact and to-do lists, accessing enterprise applications and music, photo and video capabilities. Cingular 8525 Pocket PC Phone Announced

cingular8525.jpgClearly, there is going to come a time when phones that do not have Wi-Fi connectivity will be considered dinosaurs. Cingular is already prepared for this era with the Cingular 8525 Pocket PC. Pocket PC is an adequate description, considering what it can do.

As you can see, the device sort of looks like an old-school (good grief, am I actually calling five-year old products old school?) Palm Pilot. You can even interact with it with a touch-screen stylus. You can also navigate via the four-way navigation button and touch-screen stylus. The phone is also a slider, and out of it comes a backlit QWERTY keyboard.

The Cingular 8525 phone is connected to the UMTS/HSDPA Broadband Connect service, which is currently expanding both nationally and internationally. This Broadband Connect is capable of downlink speeds of 400-700 Kbps (kilobits per second) and faster. The 8525 PC phone is also able to work seamlessly with Cingular’s famous EDGE network. Wi-Fi (802.11 b and g) and calling isn’t the only thing that the PC Phone is compatible with. This PC Phone is also built to handle Bluetooth devices, as well as infrared.

The Cingular 8525 phone is powered by the Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system, which is very similar to those used by PC and laptop owners. For example, mobile versions of Windows Media Player, Internet Explorer, and Outlook are all available for users on the go. The Media Player can play MP3s and audio files of various formats, and is capable of video files as well. The Internet Explorer function is perfect for fast net surfing, and Outlook is a perfect place to check email. Direct-Push technology makes it possible so that all these systems interact with the phone so that e-mail, calendar, tasks and contacts are seamlessly updated.

Other features include the TeleNav GPS Navigator that allows users to have turn-by-turn voice and on-screen directions directly on their phone while driving and walking. It also has a 2 Megapixel camera that is capable of both video and still images. The optional 1GB Micro-SD card allows for more memory for songs, games, or photos.

The Cingular 8525 Pocket PC will be available exclusively from Cingular (of course) in mid-November for under $400 USD.

    Best Price on the Internet!

The Korean mobile phone producer Pantech has made another deal with Cingular to provide a new cellphone on the US also known as Pantech C120 which is one of the models of their “Slim-Series”. This latest addition is a simple bar-type phone with basic features but with good dimensions - 103 x 42.5 x 13.5 mm – and a nice weight too – only 75 grams. What I meant by basic features is: a VGA camera; a 65,000 color display measuring 1.5-inches with a square resolution of 128 x 128 pixels; normal SMS and MMS + OZ IM Client to send and receive text and image messages; and finally the use of WAP and Java 2.0.

There is a peculiar specification with the Pantech C120, that is, the device is only available for Cingular customers that use one of the GoPhone services – Pick Your Plan or Pay As You Go.

Sung Kyu Lee – President of Pantech, comments:

The introduction of the Pantech C120 further underscores our ambition to become a leader in the U.S. mobile phone market and, indeed, in other key regions around the world. We hope the Pantech C120 turns out to be another iconic model in Cingular's product lineup

Earlier in June, Pantech made its first appearance in US solo with the Pantech C300, it's what they call the world's smallest camera flip phone in the GSM arena.

Woo-hoo! Cingular has just announced the availability of the Windows Mobile 5.0 powered Cingular 8125 cell phone! Boasting Wi-Fi and EDGE capabilities, the 8125 includes a QWERTY keyboard that slides out, and quad-band coverage making it a world-phone.

After the Cingular 2125 which really turned heads, the Cingular 8125 is the next Windows Mobile phone to come out of Cingular's stables. It comes with Bluetooth functionality, so you can go handsfree without having to deal with messy wired headsets.

A 1.3 megapixel cam is included, which could've been improved. I mean, 1.3MP is so passe. With Windows Mobile, you get a host of productivity and entertainment software, and the 8125 is no exception: mobile versions of Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word are bundled.

Windows Media Player 10 gives you playback facility for MP3, AAC, WAV, WMA and AMR formats. You can also catch MPEG4 videos. With 64MB SDRAM and 128MB flash ROM, you get a mini-SD slot for expanding the limited onboard memory.

Weighing in at 5.25 oz, the Pocket PC measures 4.32" x 2.32" x 1". The thickness of the device is a bit of a turn-off. The Li-ion battery claims to offer nearly 5 hours of talktime and 7 days standby (but we all know that's not going to be the case, right?).

The Cingular 8100 is the camera-less version of 8125, but otherwise has the same feature-set. Available at a starting price of US $299 with a two-year contract, you can purchase Cingular 8125 or 8100 from Cingular's website.

Powered by a 200 MHz TI OMAP 850 processor, it provides 64MB SDRAM and 64MB Flash ROM. The large 2.2" QVGA color TFT screen looks inviting, but for the 64k color support.

With support for Microsoft Exchange Server and e-mail access with Outlook Mobile, the Cingular 2125 is a feature-packed phone for business professionals. With the device, you can seamlessly access Cingular Xpress Mail and MSN Hotmail. Users can also enjoy benefits of MMS to send photos or video clips.

Bluetooth 1.2 and Infrared are a couple of wireless standards supported, with Mini-USB taking the wired connectivity. Multimedia features include Windows Media Player 10 Mobile, a stereo headset jack (yum!) and a 1.3 megapixel cam for both digital still images and videos.

When Cingular brings out its direct push e-mail service (targeted during the first half of 2006), this phone is software-upgradeable for the Messaging and Security Feature Pack. Compatible with GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz networks, you can take along this phone across more than 165 countries.

Costing US $199 (for a 2-year contract) Cingular 2125 can be purchased online from Cingular's website.

    Cingular launches Push-to-Talk service

lgf7200.jpgCingular has just launched their Push-To-Talk (PTT) service in the US similar to that of Nextel's iDen network. But no one likes a copy cat unless there is added value so Cingular is offering a Buddy List that allows you to see a list friends who are available before you call.

Currently only one phone supports this new service, the LG-F7200 although the Samsung D357 will be available soon.

An unlimited plan on this new service costs $9.99 per month, with the family plan at $19.99

    Cingular offers the Firefly phone

    FireFly Cell Phone for Kids

Get this Phone Now for the
    Best Price on the Internet!

Cingular has announced that they will be carrying the new Firefly phone which was unveiled earlier this summer. Cingular is the first national U.S. carrier to launch this phone which is targeted specifically at kids 12 and under. That's right - 12 AND under - although this should not prevent you from getting the phone if you wanted one also!

The Firefly is an example of simplicity - it only has five keys instead of your normal keypad found on all other phones. Parents can use a private PIN number to program up to 22 outgoing numbers directly onto the phone - including speed dials for Mom and Dad. Kids can then call home by pressing either the Mom or Dad key or by selecting a name in the address book and pressing "Send".

The phone is designed to fit comfortably in a child's hand and it even lights up like a Firefly when the phone rings (hence the name Firefly). Your kids can personalize their Firefly phone by selecting ringtones, animations, and backlight colors. The phone will be available through Cingular retail locations or via their website. The phone is selling for $49.99 after a $25 mail in rebate and a two year contract with Cingular.

Firefly Mobile also announced this week that their Firefly phone was awarded the 2006 "Best of Innovations" award in the telephone category from the Consumer Electronics Association (CES) - congrats to Firefly! Also check out the discussions we have had on our site about this product, we have over91 comments about it.
