226351836_af907705ee_o.jpgHere's one device that is waiting to be hacked! Chumby industry, which was apparently formed by a group of hackers who wanted to create something interesting, useful and different introduced their new device called Chumby, a small, wifi enabled, touch screen information device which was displayed to all the attendees of the Foo Camp in Sebastopol, California.

The Chumby can just about perform any desired function. All one has to do is to register his Chumby product on the Chumby website and it can become just about anything you like. It is an open source device and has made a HDK and SDK available for developers, expect modifications to come quickly. It features 266Mhz ARM controller, 32MB SDRAM, a 320 x 240 3.5″ touchscreen display, WiFi, two speakers, audio in/out and a USB port. It houses a squeeze sensor on the casing via which the device can be controlled.

The Chumby can just about do anything. It can show you pictures, messages sent from your friends and even messages from IM buddies. If that's not all, you can see your daily horoscope and the weather, and a whole community of artists and animators can send their creations around the chumby network to entertain you. It makes use of those MP3 files, FM/AM, your iPod, podcasts from the internet, to wake you up as well.

The Chumby will hit the stores in March 2007 for an MSRP of $150. Developers can request one now on the Chumby home page. Tell them why you want it, and they may send you one.
