Verizon One Phone

At the CES show this week, Verizon unveiled its next generation "Verizon One" Home Communications Center for FiOS customers. "Verizon On" is an all-in-one device that brings voice, data and video to your home.

Verizon One will be manufactued exclusively for Verizon ViOS Internet customers under a multi-year contract with OpenPeak. This new device is sleeker and more powerful than the current Verizon One device. The new Verizon One features a digital cordless phone mounted on a tablet sized base. The display screen is a 7-inch, high resolution touchscreen which provides solutions for multiple household communication needs. You can access email, voice mail, log into personal calendars and address books, consult movie listings, and check the latest news and weather. Other features that Verizon hopes to include in the future are the ability to access traffic reports, order a pizza or movie tickets online, and send memors or text messages to family members.

The new Verizon One Home Communications Center will also accomodate both traditional and VoIP phone calls. It can stream music from the Internet to be replayed over the attached speakers, and you can preview images of video from cameras and camcorders. Preview movie trailers, connect to a printer, and support a total of 5 handsets throughout the home.

The services will be available through a combined, built-in WiFi and ethernet connection to allow access to online content. Multiple USB ports make it easy to connect a variety of peripheral devices. The communications center can be located anywhere that there is a phone jack and electrical outlet.

The Verizon One Home Communication Center for FiOS customers is expected to be available this spring for an undisclosed price.

Verizon to Offer Motorola SLVR L7C Phone

Verizon Wireless is picking up the Motorola SLVR L7C phone, l7c.jpg a sleek and slim "bar" style mobile phone. The specs for this Verizon version of the L7C phone are similar to that of its GSM cousin available through Cingular:

  • 175x220 pixel display
  • VGA camera
  • Integrated music player
  • microSD expansion slot
  • EV-DO

There hasn't yet been official annoucement as to when Verizon will actually offer the L7C, however, its appearance on Verizon's "official pre-release site" can only indicate that a launch is imminent. Pricing has also not yet been revealed, although it is safe to assume that it will be similar to that of Cingular's GSM version.

LG enV Review

10762_large.jpg

Looks like our friends at MobileMag have given us an (dare I say it) out of the box review of the LG VX9900 enV. This LG isn't a slider like the Chocolate, or clamshell like the VX9800 (aka "The V"). This is all candybar, opening up to reveal a sweet QWERTY keyboard and midget stereo speakers.

What they liked:

The QWERTY keyboard is designed for the text messager, with enough space in between so there is no screw-ups.

The camera has been upgraded from a 1.3 Megapixel to a 2.0 Megapixel unit. It even has an integrated lens cover which a user can open by rotating the chrome bezel around it. You can also shoot up to an hour's worth of 320 x 240 video, provided you have an Micro SD card. You can also make adjustments such as resolution, self-timer, flash, white balance, shutter sound, color effects, and auto focus. It appears this phone is just as advanced as any digital camera.

The music plays very clear despite the speaker size. Who says size matters?

The inside of the phone looks good, by design.

What they didn't like:

The QWERTY keyboard has no space bar, but space "keys" on the bottom left and right.

The only downside about the camera is a "say cheese" sound that comes from the shutter. Apparently, that is a default setting, but it can be turned off. Overall, the photo quality is pretty good, save for the bluish colors created by the flash.

Unfortunately, the V-cast, which is responsible for getting everything for the phone including music, ringtones, wallpapers, games, applications, and other things. As for music, it doesn't look like there is a way to organize your own music folders. You have to cram 400 songs on an SD, and it might be hard to find one when you want it.

They found the outside of the display was "squintingly small", but serves its purpose.

Summary

Except for a few picky little details, MobileMag really liked the LG enV, giving it a high rating of 84 percent. Not bad. If you wish to purchase this camera, it is available from Verizon Wireless for $150 with a 2-year contract.

Motorola W315 offered at Verizon Wireless

motorola_w315_mc_001.jpg

Verizon intends to put out the Motorola W315 for its network. This phone, with a 65K STN color display, 1xRTT radio, and speaker is part of their unique clamshell collection. As far as we know, the full retail will be $149.99. You can also get it for $79.99 for a one year contract, and $29.99 for a two-year contract. I'm kind of wondering if these run-of-the-mill cell phones will be soon phased out for those with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and other such bells and whistles.

Thanks Bob

    LG enV For Verizon Wireless

    LG enV For Verizon Wireless

The much-awaited LG enV VX9900 cell phone is now out from Verizon. With EV-DO support, you can be one happy duck browsing the net on the big 262k color TFT LCD.

Several Bluetooth profiles are supported on the enV, making it a very versatile device. LG could have upped the 2-megapixel camera on this one, but seeing that its target market is business users, we are okay on this one.

Don't mistake it for a Nokia Communicator, though. This one's very different. Like we had previously mentioned, the LG enV will be available for US $149.99 along with a 2-year contract with Verizon.

Samsung U740 and U620 Coming To Verizon

    Combo.JPG

Those of you who are always looking for the latest in mobile technology should look forward to the release of the U620 and U740. Both of these phones will be available from Verizon.

The U620 (above right) is an interesting slider phone that has MediaFLO mobile television service. It also has EV-DO power, Bluetooth, and 1.3 Megapixel camera. It also has a microSD for a little extra memory, which appears to be standard in newcells these days.

The U740 (below right) has most of the same features. That is, the EV-DO, Bluetooth, the 1.3 Megapixel camera, and the Micro SD. What it lacks is the MediaFLO capacity, but it does have handy QWERTY keyboard.

We don’t quite have a release date on these bad boys, nor a price. We’ll just wait and see.

    Verizon Casio G'zOne Type-V Phone

    Casio%20phone.bmp

Verizon Wireless will be the only network to support the Casio G’zOne Type V cell phone. This phone can withstand rigorous outdoor conditions, and is definitely designed for those who are either in the military or love the outdoors.

For example, the G’zOne can withstand temperatures in excess of 140 degrees Fahrenheit, as well as solar radiation. It looks like rain is also not a problem, as this phone can withstand rainfall 2 inches per hour with a 40 mph wind. In fact, you could even submerge it in a meter of water for about a half-hour. In addition to all this, the G’zOne phone also withstood many drops, as well as a vibration test. This phone looks as durable as your old AT&T princess.

The Casio G’zOne is also outfitted with several features, including access to the Verizon Get It Now store. However, most outdoorsmen (and women) will probably appreciate the VZ Navigator the most. This tool includes mapping, audible turn-by-turn navigation and access to information to 14 million point of interest.

Other features include the V CAST Video, which allows you to download video clips as well as games right to your phone. The phone is also Mobile Web 2.0 capable, which will allow you access to the latest in news, sports, weather, and entertainment. Mobile IM also allows you to send and receive instant messages via AOL Instant, and it also has text messaging options. Other options include voice-activated dialing, speakerphone, calendar, address book, calculator, notepad, and stopwatch.

The Casio G’zOne also includes a 2.0 Megapixel camera, capable of taking still shots as well as 15-second FLIX videos. You can send and receive these pictures and videos with the PIX and FLIX option.

The G’zOne Type-V should be available soon at Verizon Wireless for about $299.99 with a new two-year customer agreement.

Verizon Wireless to allow phones to act as modems

verizonwireless logo for using phones as modems.gifIn a change of policy, Verizon Wireless will now allow subscribers to use a select number of mobile phones to act as modems for their laptops. Up until now, those who have managed to use their phones as high speed wireless modems for their laptops were doing so illegally.

Verizon will now make a new data plan available which allows certain phones to act as high speed modems. The plan will be priced at $59.99 a month on top of the current voice plan that the user may have. The approved list of phones include the LG VX9800, Motorola RAZR V3c, Motorola E815, and LG VX8100. Unfortunately the Treo 700w, and the Verizon XV6700 are not on the current list.

You also need to connect the phone to your laptop via a USB cable as it appears that Verizon will not be enabling the Bluetooth functionality. Via PC Magazine.

Verizon Introduces LG Migo for Kids

LG Migo Cell Phone for KidsAfter targeting teens and tasting success, carriers are all out to woo kids to give the cell phone a try. Among them are now Verizon, introducing the LG Migo (which is actually an LG VX1000). The phone looks quite compact and weighs just 2.46 oz.

The Migo also features four parent programmable numbers, a dedicated emergency key (also programmable) and the most important thing: a simplified keyboard and interface. It's not actually easy to make things kid-friendly, and the Migo tries to get past this hurdle.

You also don't have to worry about huge SMS/GPRS bills, as the Migo does not support either. The phone costs US $149.99 with a 1-year service agreement with Verizon, or $99.99 for a 2-year contract. More info is available from Verizon's website.
