Sony W200 Walkman Phone for Everyone

W200i_front_40angle_view_i_Pulse_White_with%20headset.jpg

Sony Ericsson brings in the new W200 Walkman phone - and SE calls it the Walkman phone for everyone. With enough memory to store about four albums, the phone comes bundled with Disc2Phone music management software.

The Sony W200 is equipped with an FM radio receiver for additional entertainment, which lets you store 20 stations of your choice. A dedicated Walkman key is available on the device. By default, you get a 128MB Memory Stick Micro (M2), which is upgradeable to 1GB.

Thrown in along with the Sony W200 is Sony Ericsson's HPM-64 stereo headphone featuring Bass Reflex. There's also a speakerphone for such mundane duties as alarm clock. A disappointing VGA camera apart, it comes with a decent web browser and supports video messaging, push email and PC sync.

The phone supports Java MIDP 2.0, which is good news for mobile gamers. Now if only they upped the 65k color screen to something nicer...

Expect the Sony Ericsson W200 in Q2 2007 in two flavors: a GPRS 900/1800/ 1900MHz compatible model and a GPRS 850/1800/1900MHz compatible model. SE will be offering it in two colors: Rhythm Black and Pulse White.

No word on the pricing yet. Feature list in the extended entry.

    Walkman® phone for everyone
    08 January 2007

    Walkman® phone for everyone

London, 7 January – The appeal of the Sony Ericsson Walkman® phone broadens today with the introduction of the W200; a blend of easy-to-use mobile phone and the key features needed to make a first step into ‘music on your mobile’.

With the W200 Walkman® phone you can store up to 37 full length tracks* (or about four albums) and it’s easy to replace them when it’s time for a change. Simply transfer music from your PC with the Disc2Phone music management software supplied. This latest addition to Sony Ericsson’s musical family will be available in two renowned Walkman® phone colours (Rhythm Black & Pulse White) and has stamina for up to 18 hours of music listening. So you can be sure that your favourite tracks are always with you!

“The W200 is an affordable music phone that compliments your existing MP3 player,” says Steve Walker, Head of Product Marketing at Sony Ericsson. “It’s not everyday that you want to carry lots of devices with you; and with the W200 you have enough music storage for your current playlist. And if you tire of these, the FM Radio allows you to quickly tune-in to your favourite drive-time show.”

To make it easy to get to your music, the W200 features a dedicated Walkman® key that takes you straight to the Walkman player menu. If you need to share your music with friends then the 128MB Memory Stick Micro™ (M2™) lets you do this in an instant. And it is always possible to upgrade to a larger Memory Stick if you need to expand your music library: the 1GB Stick available now will hold up to 255 full-length tracks.

If you want to catch up with the news or listen to your favourite DJ, then the FM Radio allows you to pre-set up to 20 of your favourite stations. Listen-in via the colour-matched Stereo Headset HPM-64; the first to feature Bass Reflex, an innovation that preserves audio quality when the bass is turned up. You can even use the radio as your alarm clock, using the in-built speakerphone rather than the stereo headphones.

Sony Z310 is the mirror-finish clamshell phone that colour codes your contacts

    Z310i_01.jpg

You've got to like the look of the Sony Ericsson Z310. As you can see, this clamshell has got a really (dare I say it?) sexy polished finish. As you can also see, the front icon display is integrated into the design, and will only been seen from beneath the surface when a call or message is received.

The Sony Ericsson Z310 has EDGE, HTML Browsing, and Infared connectivity. Those that want to surf the net, check e-mail, or send and receive instant messaging should love this. The standard talk time is up to 7 hours, with 300 hours of standby.

Like most cell phones, it has all the usual features. For example, you can get MP3 ringtones, and (presumably) MP3 playing. Since it also has Bluetooth, it is compatible with many hands-free headsets.

Of course, one of the more unique features is the eye-catching colored light effects that occur every time someone calls. This effect can be programmed so it is different for each person who calls. Now you will know instantly who it is when you get a call.

It looks like personalization is the word for this phone, because you can also set the look of the menu and screen display to match the time of day. For example, you can have a bright theme during the daytime and a more relaxing theme for the nighttime.

You can also personalize your pictures. The Z310 includes a built-in VGA camera that allows you to take instant still shots and then upload them to a Picture Blogging available for Z310 customers.

You can also personalize your phone with the color scheme, choosing from a the three colors shown here: Jet Set Black, Blush Bronze, or Lush Pink.

Since the Sony Ericsson Z310 phone has just been announced, we currently do not have an availability date or price.

    Sony Ericsson Emphasizes “Liquid Identity”

According to a recent press release, Sony Ericsson wants to emphasize the individual with their new “liquid identity” program. Right now, Sony Ericsson is being pretty vague as far as what that refers to, but the first phase is a whole new line of phones in vibrant colors that stand out from the usual color palette of most mobile phones today.

The second phase apparently involves the user always seeing distinctly personal messages whenever he or she looks at his or her phone’s display. Apparently it will be messages “relating to the things the individual loves, cares about, or is inspired by”. Apparently, this is not designed to tell users what to think, but reflect back what it is that they are thinking.

Even though this sounds like a positive thing, it looks like it’s more designed to fill your phone with messages that sound a lot like the pop-ups that occur every time you go online. For those of us born before 1984, all I can think is “Big Brother has gone mobile”. However, for the generation addicted to myspace, they might enjoy a personal touch.

The liquid identity program should be implemented soon, to coincide with Sony Ericsson’s 5th year anniversary.

    Sony MBW-100 Bluetooth Watch

    GPD_39029high_27_0_4001.jpg

You know how Dick Tracy used to use his wristwatch as a two-way radio? Even though we most certainly have the technological capacity for a two-way wrist communicator, that technology never caught on. Maybe we just prefer talking into cell phones or wireless headsets than our wrists.

The Sony MBW-100 Bluetooth Watch is a definite tread back into Tracy territory. The MBW-100 uses Bluetooth technology to interface with your cell phone. So if you have an incoming cell phone call, the watch face shows you right away. If you wish to reject the call, just hit a button on the watch. The watch also notifies you of an incoming text message, and informs you when you wander out of cell phone range. You can even access your phone’s music player to play, pause, and fast forward through tracks. This is something that most users do from the remotes on their headphones, but hey, why not incorporate the watch in your audio entertainment experience?

The MBW-100 watch is designed to be very sleek, with a stainless steel body and scratch resistant crystal window. It has an analog style, with quartz movements for exact time keeping. The screen that informs of callers and other info is a clear OLED display.

Like most new watches, it is water resistant (up to 30 meters). Unlike most watches, the MBW-100 comes with a “charging clip”. Other stats say that its Bluetooth functionality is only up for 7 days, and Analog time keeping is up to 7 additional days. I’m wondering if that means that the watch has to be charged like your cell phone. I don’t know about you, but I’m not used to charging my watch. Normally, I just let the little battery in it do its job. Sony apparently expects its users to develop a new habit of watch-charging. I suppose if you needed this device’s useful functions, I suppose you would quickly develop the watch charging habit.
