Motorola MOTOMING with Edge

Several new Motorola phones where introduced last week at CES, and lost amongst the shuffle was the new MOTOMING with Edge. The MING is a sleek and stylish new phone which runs off of Linux-based software, and features a large transparent window.

ming.JPG

Utilizing the EDGE technology, the MOTOMING is a communications and entertainment powerhouse. Users can sync their music collections with RealPlayer and download music from your favorite online stores. It also features an integrated media player with multiple audio file support, FM radio, Bluetooth stereo technology, 2GB of option microSD memory, and the unique "play while closed" capability. Other features include a 2 megapixel camera, a business card reader, document viewer, Bluetooth, Kodak Easyshare Gallery compatibility, and a high performance personal information manager.

The Motorola MOTOMING is the company's first mobile device with a dual-language "talking" dictionary. Users can enter a word in a native language; the on-board handwriting recognition allows the text to be entered naturally by writing directly on the large 1.5" x 2" screen. The word is then "spoken" aloud by the device in a foreign language. Simultaneously, the definition of the word is displayed on-screen in the native language. Alternatively, when a foreign word is entered the MOTOMING will pronounce the word in that language and display the definition in the user's native language.

The MOTOMING with EDGE technology is expected to be released in Q1 2007. No pricing information is yet available.

Motorola W315 offered at Verizon Wireless

    motorola_w315_mc_001.jpg

Verizon intends to put out the Motorola W315 for its network. This phone, with a 65K STN color display, 1xRTT radio, and speaker is part of their unique clamshell collection. As far as we know, the full retail will be $149.99. You can also get it for $79.99 for a one year contract, and $29.99 for a two-year contract. I'm kind of wondering if these run-of-the-mill cell phones will be soon phased out for those with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and other such bells and whistles.

    Thanks Bob

    Motorola IC502 Review

%20Motorola%20ic502-review.jpgThe Motorola ic502 which features both iDEN and CDMA frequencies has been reviewed by the good folks of Cnet. The reviewer gives the handset brownie points for its rugged design, its ability to access Nextel's Direct Connect network and were also impressed by the call quality of the handset. What they didn't dig was the limited feature set, its low-resolution display and interface which they called "jarring".

The Motorola ic502 is the first phone on the network to feature both iDEN and CDMA frequencies and supports Walkie-Talkie” and 1900MHz CDMA for making calls in Sprint network or CDMA roaming. One also comes across a 64k colors TFT (128 x 160) display and an external white STN 96 x 32 display. Other features include; GPS Enabled, SMS, Java Direct Send, Direct Talk, Walkie Talkie and 210 mins talk time.

In the end the website concludes "Though the Motorola ic502 successfully combines the Sprint and Nextel networks, its limited feature set and design peculiarities make it a poor choice for Nextel loyalists."

    MOTORAZR V3- Miami Ink Collection

    15096_MotImage.gif

For those that like the body art, you may be glad to see that it has also been applied to cell phones as well. MOTORAZR V3 has launched the Miami Ink collection, which gives you chemically-etched tattoos for your cell. The artwork is inspired by Ami James, the leading tattoo artist on TLC’s hit TV show Miami Ink.

Of course, that’s just a gimmick. What you really want are all the phone’s features, such as the 176 x 220 2.2 inch color display. It also has a 3D graphics engine that includes a MPEG4 video-clip playback option. It also has a VGA camera with 4x zoom, well as Bluetooth capability.

I don’t seem to have a price on this, but I imagine you can find out at your nearest Motorola outlet.
