i-mate JAQ3 Pocket PC Phone Announced

i-mate JAQ3 Pocket PC Phone Announced

The much-awaited i-mate JAQ3 is all set to scorch the mobile world. Featuring a rather nice QWERTY keypad and the smug little 5-way joystiq, the i-mate JAQ3 runs Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 and comes with a host of communication options.

The JAQ3 is equipped with a 2.4" touch screen, allowing you to write your email and text messages with a stylus. This phone is a quad-band GSM world phone and supports EDGE networks as well. It doesn't support UMTS, but at its price point, EDGE support is appreciated.

The i-mate JAQ3 also includes a 2-megapixel camera, so this one's not just for business types. The USP, however, has to be support for Wi-Fi, with 802.11 b/g standards. For convenience when reading long emails (you know how it is!), the device features a scroll wheel.

But don't go to your nearest gizmo store and ask for it: the i-mate JAQ3 is making its debut in the Middle East, but hopefully it will hit the other markets soon. We had covered the i-mate JAQ3 Windows Mobile Pocket PC a couple of months ago, and it's good it see the device getting launched finally.

i-mate SmartFlip Phone

jasondunn-htc-startrek-000.jpgLooks like i-mate has also succumbed to the very popular flip design. Be geared up for the i-mate Smartflip which incorporates the functionality of a Windows Mobile Device into a think clamshell design. In fact this baby also carries the tag of the ‘Thinnest Windows Mobile Smartphone to date’ with dimensions of 98.5 mm x 51.4 mm x 15.8 mm. This phone also has a record number of pseudonyms and is also known as the Qtek 8500, and the Dopod S300 andHTC Str Trk. This Quad-band GSM has TI 850 200 MHz OMAP CPU with 64 MB of RAM and 64 MB of ROM.

The Smartflip has a host of connectivity options including Bluetooth, GPRS/EDGE, and USB 1.1 and also has a microSD memory slot so that you never run out of storage space. The 1.3 CMOS camera and the onboard MP3 player will no doubt be appreciated by one and all. The phone has a dedicated set of menu for the MP3 player and the handset also has MMS capabilities, a JAVA profile and a number of games. However the fact that this handset sports a Flat USB, which means its not compatible with any of your current miniUSB cables and power accessories ,wont go down very well with some users.

The SmartFlip has a 65 K colors TFT LCD with a 128x128 dot resolution. The phone includes a microphone, a loudspeaker and the Document Viewer can support Word/Excel/PowerPoint and PDF files. The handset is going to be available very soon for about US 517$. For more info visit the product page here.

Augmented Reality on i-mate SP5

artoolkitplus_Smartphone-thumb.jpgDaniel Wagner has acquired some sort of a cult in the technology world first with The Invisible Train project and now with the a great demo for the i-mate SP5 Windows Mobile Phone which features the concept of Augmented Reality. Augmented Reality whats that? Well in layman words Augmented Reality or AR basically lets users take real life step further and virtual objects can be viewed and manipulated by more than one individual, something alas we don’t see in real life.

To achieve AR traditionally huge costs and high tech equipment were associated but Daniel Wagner and his team concentrates on low cost multimedia devices like PDAs, mobile phones etc to make AR universally accepted. Also AR naturally compliments mobile computing because it provides a sensitive interface .You can further read about Wagner and his projects on his webpage.
