Samsung E420 Black Version

Samsung's E420 mobile phone that was initially available in Europe and Asia in pearl white is now being released in a black and red design. It has a 0.3 megapixel camera, 65k colors screen, and basic phone functions. It lacks Bluetooth and IrDA connection, and the only way to download ringtones and games is via GPRS. With these kinds of features, this seems to be a phone suited for those who just want basic phoning capabilities as it lacks many of the high-tech features found on many of today's hottest phones.

Samsung m610 On Display at CES

m610_openfront-thumb22.jpgIf the other Samsung a727 didn't pleasure all your precious cellphone needs, maybe the new SPH-m610 will do just that and much more. According to Samsung this model (SPH-m610) is currently the thinnest clamshell phone available on the US market, which can be true considering that its dimensions are something like 101 x 52 x 11.9mm.

One of the most important things on this mobile device is the use of the Sprint Power Vision EVDO network, making it easy for people to check whatever they want online at an affordable price and considerable speeds. Some of its basic features are the same as the previous Samsung a727, with one exception going to the camera that has 2megapixels instead of 1.3. The screen, transfer methods, and instant messaging services are all the same in both models.

On the other hand, while taking a close look there a couple of differences can be noted like the Power SMS or Voice Recognition features, while these are good ones they will probably make the price get $50 more expensive.

Samsung a727 Phone - 8.9mm Quadband GSM

sgh-a727-A-samsung-cellphone1.jpgIt looks like every 30 minutes a new cellphone is being presented at CES, the cool thing is that all these new cellphones are actually pretty good and use top-notch technology so it with no surprise that Samsungs pops out the new black, stylish and simple SGH-a727, this one isn't actually one of those “wow” cellphones but it is good nonetheless. It features a 1.9-inch Colo TFT screen that gives a resolution of 220x176 and has the normal number of 262144 colors.

The camera to take photos has 1.3 megapixels and you can transfer the images and other files to your computer via the bluetooth connection or using the USB2.0 system, another way of transferring those files would be to use the mobile e-mail. Other features of the Samsung SGH-a727 include instant messaging services like MSN, Yahoo or AOL so you can chat all you want with your buddies, a document viewer and the most normal option to expand the memory – a micro SD slot.

Dale Sohn from Samsung, comments:

Samsung is proud to consistently design ultra-slim and stylish handsets. A number of our handsets boast a sleek and innovative design with a host of customer- pleasing multimedia features, including the CES Innovations Honoree SGH-a727.

Samsung SYNC Review - Video

The good folks of Phone Scoop have done a video review of the Samsung SYNC and dig the handset for its sleek ergonomics, its large QVGA screen, its large keypad and its ability to hold onto a signal. What the folks were not thrilled about was the audio performance of the handset and performance when it came to music playback, photography and Java was lacking.

The Sync is a quad-band GSM phone and takes advantage of Cingular's new HSDPA network allowing customers to experience broadband-like speeds on their cell phones. Via the dedicated Cingular Music key, you can access the online music shop right from the comfort of your handset.

In the end the guys at Phone Scoop conclude " The Sync represents a significant step forward for Cingular's 3G line up, whether judging based on data speed, looks or performance. In addition to the how well it handles standard tasks, especially browsing, it also performs well on advanced 3G applications like streaming video. Sadly, it falls short on many tasks like music playback, photography and Java performance when compared to many 2G phones, let alone 3G ones."

Samsung Develops 1/4-inch 3-megapixel CMOS Image Sensor for Ultra Slim Camera Phones

samsung-logo%20square.JPGWith the demand for high resolution cameras in Ultra Slim phones increasing exponentially, Samsung has stood up to the challenge and has delivered what seems to be the world's first 3-MegaPixel CMOS image sensor (CIS) with a 1/4-inch lens aperture that is well suited for ultra slim camera phones.

Making use of the 90-nanometer (nm) process technology, the 1.75um-size pixel enables the 1/4-inch lens aperture to drastically reduce the camera module size by 30 percent as opposed to a conventional 2.25um pixel 1/3-inch lens aperture 3M-pixel CIS. The small form factor allows the replacement of the conventional 1/4-inch lens aperture 2M-pixel CIS module with the M-pixel CIS module. In 2007, camera phones are expected to account for 74 percent of total mobile phones, according to the research, Samsung surely is heading in the right direction.

Samsung SCH-W531 Phone

Samsung SCH-W531

Thanks to confidentiality requests with the FCC by Samsung, we seldom get to see intimate images and user guides for their cell phones. However, once the confidentiality period expires, we get our grubby little hands on them.

The Samsung SCH-W531 is one such phone whose details were made available at the FCC. The USP of this phone is that it's a dual-mode GSM and CDMA phone. While details are still a bit sketchy at this time, it's got a camera and video capability.

The SCH-W531 is loaded with Bluetooth and can double-up as a USB drive when connected to your PC. It's got an integrated reader that can handle a variety of MS Office documents, PDF and HTML (a WAP browser is available separately). The usual appendages apply: a world clock, alarm function, organizer and calculator.

As usual, no word on the pricing or availability.

Agere's Innovative Technology Enables Samsung to Roll Out World's Thinnest Cell Phones

samsung-x820.jpgEveryone knows about Samsung's constant love affair with thin handsets, the most recent being Ultra Edition 6.9 (X820 bar design) and Ultra Edition 9.9 (D830 clamshell design). However its a little known fact that both use the innovative chip packaging design by Agere System which entails package-on-package stacking. Simply put a "packaged memory chip is stacked on top of the baseband chip package " which decreases the footprint.

The Ultra Edition 6.9 (X820) measures less 6.9 millimeters thick and weighs only 66 gram and the Ultra Edition 9.9 (D830) measures 9.9 millimeters thick. Inspite of their small for factors, both handsets have all the now mandatory features including; music player, bluetooth, 2 megapixel camera, 80MB of internal memory, V set with a TV-out interface. The handsets also support 2.5 Gen EDGE which transmits ada at up to 384 kilobits per second.

"It's abundantly clear that huge numbers of people crave cool, slick cell phones such as these ultra-thin models from Samsung," said Denis Regimbal, executive vice president of Agere's Mobility Division. "They're stylish, and they're easy to use, store and carry around. Agere appreciates that Samsung gave us the opportunity to create the unconventional chip design for their flashy and unique products."

    Samsung i600 Ultra Messaging Phone

    20061204154252187.jpg

One of Samsung's latest 3G smarphones, the i600, is an excellent candybar with a QWERTY keyboard and 2.3 high-quality color screen.

It also has the power of Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0, so you have access to e-mail and the World Wide Web. Users will even have a separate Inbox for Hotmail messages on the device. Instant messaging will view their buddy list and chant instantly with their contacts. It is the first 3G smartphone with HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) support for faster download speeds. It can also support podcasting and RSS Feeder. In addition to WiFi, it also supports Bluetooth as well.

The i600 has not just one, but two cameras! That's right, you can conduct 3G video calls with this guy, which could easily bring about a whole era of being seen and not heard. You can also hear stereo-quality music and view high quality video clips with Windows Media Player 10. Since the device has a Micro SD slot, you can store all your favorite videos and MP3s on an additional memory.

Additional features include a speakerphone, built-in voice recognition, as well as support for a 1.3 Megapixel digital camera that even records video.

I got to admit, I almost forgot that this guy is also a phone. If you look close on the QWERTY keyboard, you'll notice some of the keys highlighted so you dial. Of course, with all the databases in this guy, will you ever have to punch a number key again?

I have to admit, the device looks slim (11.8mm, so I'm told), but it does seem a little…wide. But hey, what can you expect for something that does all of this? At least it weighs a little under 100 grams.

Anyway, look for this guy in early 2007, and I wish I had a word on a price. It is nice.

    Samsung SPH-B5800 Phone from Korea

    samsung-sph-b5800-1_large.jpg

Samsung’s newest phone, the SPH-B5800, is slated for a Korean release. However, it has so many terrific features, that I wouldn’t be surprised if it made it’s way worldwide. After all, a great many of the cell phones used are Samsung.

This little slider has an integrated MP3 player like the ever-so-popular LG Chocolate. (In fact, it kind of looks like the Chocolate, doesn’t it?) It also has a MicroSD memory card slot, as well as Bluetooth Capability. It also has this really cool feature that allows you to use it as a TV. All you need to do is turn it on its side and extend the antenna, you won’t miss your favorite TV show.

No word on the price or the availability date, but it looks like it’s only a Korean release. For now.
