The IM-U170 handset is not only housed in a metal casing but also sports a metallic keypad, thus providing a much needed relief from all those plasticity buttons! It has been equipped with a 2.2’’ 260K QVGA TFT LCD and has an external OLED too.

Pantech a100 USA bound

pantech_a100.jpgDue for FCC approval anytime now is the Pantech a100, a candybar phone that echoes back shades of the brick phones we once used to have.

The Korean company is said to have had the budget-minded in mind with the development of this new phone. It comes in a really basic almost boring design and comes only in black. The only modern-day take is its' rocker-style joystick/navigator.

Other specs are ho-hum including GSM/GPRS connectivity, a VGA camera with self timer, WAP and infrared.

Pantech SKY IM-U160 Handset

20061213104241513.jpg

Pantech has recently announced the launch of the IM-U160 handset, which is a combination phone and television set.

As you can see, the QVGA LCD screen is a wide one at 2.6 inches. Therefore, the aspect ratio fits well with a 15:9, as opposed to the 4:3 offered by most phones. Other features include a 2 Megapixel camera with Auto Focus and PictBridge Function. The phone has about 184MB of memory, along with a Micro SD slot. This is just the thing for those who like to play the MP3s, and the IM-U160 has a player just for that.

Another interesting feature that this slider phone has is a touch sensor keypad on its upper slide. Apparently, this touch sensor keypad can also vibrate when its surface is being touched. I'm not sure what that is good for, but that's just what my source says.

Look for the Digital Media Broadcast (DMB) phone in Korea in the next few days. I don't have a price yet, but it will be launched under Pantech's SKY brand.

Pantech C3 Miniature Cell Phone from Cingular

10715_large.jpg

In a world of really small technology, the Pantech C3 is the smallest flip phone camera. I realize that sounds like a really exciting movie preview, but this actually contains a grain of truth. It appears that Pantech has finally did it and invented the C3, the smallest flip phone/camera on the market, available from Cingular.

The phone measures at 2.72 x 1.69 inches, and it is one of the thinnest at 0.8 inches thick. I'm not really certain if something like that is big enough to fit between my mouth and ear, but if those Bluetooth earpieces can pick it up, why not this? Looks like it also features e-mail and instant messaging as well as the phone and camera modes, but who knows how it fits in such a small package? Looks like there's a little musical note there as well, so does it play MP3s? At this rate, nothing surprises me with cell phone technology anymore.

I found some information on other sites about the features, and listed them below. It also comes with removable faceplates, and I'm told that with all the rebates, you should be able to pick it up for about 40 bucks.

Pantech & Curitel PT-S280 Phone

P%20and%20C.bmp

As you can see from the photo, this woman is excited about Pantech & Curitel’s new PT-S280 (or PT-K2800) phone. This elegant slider phone is destined to be the latest in Korea. As far as I can tell, this is probably going to be where it will be distributed. (Maybe.)

The display of the PT-S280 is a wonderful 2 inch QVGA. The features include an MP3 Player, a 1.3 Megapixel camera, and a text viewer. If you will note its button set up, it is reminiscent of both the iPod and the LG Chocolate. Oh well, it’s very hard to be cutting edge in this market, isn’t it?

Pantech U4000 going to France

pantech-u4000-orange1.jpgThe almost famous South Korean company that produces cellphones (read Pantech) has made another worldwide deal, this time the partnership is with Orange and they will provide UMTS cellphones in France.

The model that will be available in the near future on the European country is code-named U4000, besides the peculiar design and by looking at the technical specifications I can call it an average mobile phone, which means that it is not too bad nor too good, it stays on the medium quality category. As most recent cellphones it has a 1.3 megapixel camera to take photos + record VGA videos, and to display both media and other information it uses the 1.9-inch TFT screen that can display 260,000 colors. Other normal features include: transfer files from/to the cellphone by using the bluetooth interface, and to add more storage capacity there is a Micro SD card slot which can be useful to work in coordination with the MP3 player.

    Pantech PG-3700 Gets FCC Nod

descAnd now, back to our scheduled programming. Word is out that Pantech's dual-band PG-3700 has been approved, having passed all the required norms set by the FCC. The phone is apparently compatible with GSM, DCS and PCS 1900 MHz networks in Europe.

Graced by a 1.9" 262k color TFT LCD, the Pantech PG-3700 offers the familiar 5-way joystick and 2-softkeys interface. A VGA CMOS camera has been thrown in, leading us to believe that this is another mass-market phone from Pantech. Weighing in at just 75g, you can't feel it in your pocket. The secondary display at the bottom of the device offers 65k colors at 128 x 32 pixel resolution.

SMS/MMS messaging and WAP browsing are possible as well. Check out Pantech's website for details on when the PG-3700 will reach us, and at what price.

New Pantech Phone With FLO Technology

box_products_mds.jpgThe Pantech Group from South Korea has just unveiled its plan to display the exclusive and ground breaking FLO technology by incorporating it in its latest handset. According to Pantech this is the perfect way of showcasing FLO technology to the general public as it just doesn’t remain a concept and becomes more tangent. FLO technology is a part of the QUALCOMM’s MediaFLO™ system which delivers unparalleled volumes of first class, streaming or clipped, audio and video multimedia content to mobile users.

The new handset would sport a stream-lined design and would be just 19.5-mm thick. It would also feature a 2.2 inch QVGA LCD which would be ideal for viewing content using FLO technology. The hand set would also include a 15pi Speaker and a Stereo headset. Some other configurations include a 2GB memory, 512Mb SDRAM Trans Flash external memory and would run on the AMSS4.3 based BREW® 3.1 Platform.

There has been no further information on this handset and according to Pantect it still requires some work before its ready for a mass release. However it will be on display at the CITA Wireless in Las Vegas and Pantech promises to release more advanced phones with FLO technology exclusively for the American market. http://www.qualcomm.com/ & http://www.pantech.com.
