Kyocera Cyclops Phone for Virgin Mobile USA

Creative Cam Notebook Pro

The new Kyocera Cyclops cell phone will be made available to Virgin Mobile customers in the USA. Featuring a trendy clamshell design, the Cyclops comes in a red-and-white body. Weighing in at 3.5 ounces, it is very lightweight and easy on the eye.

Cyclops comes with a healthy 1.3 megapixel camera, and is capable of TXT Tones - a feature that allows users to program a short song clip that alerts incoming text messages received on the handset. I'm sorry, what? Hasn't this feature been there like forever? (But then again, I guess I have been a little too spoiled by my Nokia 3650).

Being a clamshell, it features dual displays, including a bright internal color display. Pre-loaded games include Lumines Mobile, New York Nights and Bikini Beach Party, and many more are available for download.

Priced at US $99.99, the Kyocera Cyclops will be available online from Virgin Mobile USA as well as retail outlets.

    Kyocera W41K Cell Phone

Kyocera W41K Cell PhoneKyocera's new Kyocera W41K is a cell phone with lots of goodies on offer, starting with a 3.2 megapixel cam. If you thought that's great, wait till you see that the phone also has a built-in anti-shake mechanism found in most of today's digital cameras. Bye-bye, blurry images!

Up until now, cell phone images were just for fun or moblogging. With manufacturers integrating more features like this, the good ol' digital camera may soon have some serious competition from the W41K and its likes.

Want something cooler? How about a charger that sports a woofer built into it, instantly turning your phone into a personal stereo system? Add a 240x320 pixel resolution 262k color screen and there's your recipe for the Kyocera W41K.

Weighing in at a slightly heavy 127g, and measuring 51 x 106 x 22 mm, the phone can take in up to 1GB SD memory card for storing music/images, and is available in black, silver and red. Details from the Kyocera W41K site (Japanese).

    Kyocera Pounder Cell Phone

Kyocera Pounder Cell PhoneMore news from the FCC: this time, a Kyocera cell phone. The Kyocera Pounder (model K483JLC) has also been accepted.

A tri-mode cell phone, not too many details are available, except that the new model features more memory, new application software and uses lead-free flash and MSM. I felt that the keypad was a bit tiny - especially the direction keys.

As usual, for more info, head out to Kyocera's website

In their request for confidentiality, external photos of the KX21 have a short-term confidential duration - so expect some better photographs of the phone in the feature.

Like I said, I'm not too thrilled with this one, as it lacks Bluetooth.

Kyocera Slider Remix KX5 Cell Phone

Kyocera Slider Remix KX5 Cell PhoneKyocera unveiled the new Slider Remix KX5 cellphone at CTIA Wireless IT & Entertainment 2005. Incorporating a builtin music player, the Slider Remix KX5 also comes with a camera and Bluetooth functionality. Thankfully, the camera supports a resolution of 1.3 megapixels. Coupled with a color screen and added gaming capabilities, the KX5 features a microSD slot (expandable up to 512 MB) for storing audio.

While the on-board memory is good for games and apps (16 MB), you'll have to buy any additional memory card if you are serious about using this as a music player. BREW 2.1 drives this phone, which supports MMS, multiple languages, the oft-annoying T9 input mechanism, and utilities like Tip Calculator.

Supporting MP3, AAC, MP4 and other file formats, the display of this CDMA phone is a crisp 1.9" 262,000 color TFT screen.

More info is available on Kyocera's website.

    Kyocera KX160 Xcursion Moblie Phone

Kyocera KX160 XcursionKyocera has launched the new Xcursion KX160 clamshell CDMA phone. It comes with a VGA camera with flash, 5X digital zoom and external camera buttons. The handset also comes with two displays: an internal display at 128x160 pixels and an external one at 96x64 pixels.

The camera, although supporting just VGA res pics, has some neat features that include multi-shot, timer, color effects and fun frames for easy picture editing.

The platform under the hood is BREW 2.1, and it supports Bluetooth wireless technology (although it is not clear which Bluetooth profiles are supported). The phone also comes with built-in software like tip calculator, countdown timer, stopwatch, world clock and voice memos, so this is good news for consumers looking for a phone with a couple of useful PDA functionalities thrown in.

The Kyocera Xcursion KX160 is slated to be available with CDMA carriers in November 2005. kyocera.com

Kyocera The Slider Sonic Cell Phone

Kyocera The Slider SonicKyocera launched the new Slider Sonic music phone, directly aimed at the plethora of music-capable phones like Motorola Rokr and the Nokia 3250.

It comes with a 32MB microSD card, standard 3.5mm stereo headphones (thank god), and to help transfer files, a USB cable. Incorporating some of the hot-selling goodies like camera (although it's just VGA right now), video recording capabilities, MP3 and WMA playback, it comes with a 1.9" display and claims of 3.7 hours of talk time.

Convergence is the buzz word, there's no denying that. Kyocera could have, however, included a higher-resolution camera. At the current market situation, it really doesn't make sense to include just a VGA res camera anymore, unless you are targeting for mass market consumers.

Slated for an October release for $249.99, it will be available at Virgin Mobile's website. More info is available at Kyocera's website.
