E-TEN Glofish M700 Announced

glofishM700.jpg

It's been less than a week since Taiwanese electronics manufacturer E-TEN launched its new brand of Pocket PC devices called glofish. Right on top of that new line was X500, the world's thinnest GPS & WiFi enabled Pocket PC.

This week they rolled out another device under the glofish brand the M700. This Pocket PC is distinguished by its slide-out QWERTY keyboard but other than that its pretty much like the X500 - offering everything else except 3G support. And that includes GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, support for Push email, quad-band connectivity, an FM radio and an integrated camera.

The M700 is powered by Windows Mobile 5.0 and should hit stores in time for Christmas.

E-ten M700?

35201_M700.jpg

The latest tidbit to fall off the rumormill in the mobile phone industry is that E-ten, makers of the Glofiish and X500, intends to put out the M700. The E-ten M700 looks like it could have the same features as the Eten X500 with GPS, but have a sliding QWERTY keyboard.

I’m certain we’ll hear more about in a month or so. So far, it has been rumored that the M700 will be a working PC phone with built-in WiFi and a GPS map for navigation on the go.

Who knows whether these rumors are true? Anyway, we do have a nice picture of it here. I like the set up on that keyboard, though.

E-TEN X500 glofiish smartphone

eten-x500-glofiish.jpg

It’s amazing how much PC smartphones are starting to resemble old-school palm pilots these days. For example, take the E-TEN X500 glofish smartphone, which has a huge 2.8 inch QVGA screen with 128MB ROM and 64MB of RAM. At 0.6 inches thick, it is one of the thinnest of its type.

Yet it is, of course, fully loaded with features. It has a SiRF Star III GPS, Bluetooth 2.0, 802.11b/g WiFi, and EDGE radio. Nice. But wait, there is, of course, more. Not only does it have a 2 megapixel camera, but a micro SD slot.

All of this is optimized with Windows Mobile 5.0. To be honest, I’ve been looking at this phone and I see one thing missing. What is it again…oh yes, buttons! Does this thing have a regular keyboard, or is it a slider phone with a QWERTY in there somewhere? Supposedly, this has “one-thumb” activation for PC commands, but I sure hope those cover basic commands as well.

Eten G500 Pocket PC Phone

Eten G500 Pocket PC PhoneEten has a new Pocket PC phone, the G500 with GPS capabilities! It's rumored that the cool-looking device may be released as early as March 2006.

The G500's specs are an almost replica of the M600 model, with the exception that the former does not have Wi-Fi capability. While this may not go well with Wi-Fi punters, I see the GPS as a valuable addition.

Quick look at the specs:

  • CPU: Samsung S3C2440A - ARM 9 400MHz
  • Quad Band GSM/GPRS Class B
  • 128MB of Flash ROM and 64 MB SDRAM
  • Display: 2.8
