Cingular Music Debuts

CingularMusic_01.jpg

Cingular Wireless is pleased to announce Cingular Music, which is a way of brining music on Cingular wireless phones from Napster, Yahoo! Music, XM Satellite Radio and eMusic. As the slogan says, it delivers "your music, your way".

Cingular had to team up with Microsoft in order to put Windows Media Digital Rights Management into select handsets, so customers can enjoy and subscribe music on a wireless phone. The are the first to distribute subscription music through the handset, and have created several other industry firsts.

Number one, they have the most comprehensive music subscription service of its kind ever offered by a wireless carrier in the United States. Number two, they are the first carrier in the United States to enable mobile portability of online subscription music content from Napster, Yahoo, and eMusic, which sells tracks the universally compatible MP3 format. Number three, they have a one-click access to a complete sit of music related content. Number four, and this is the big one, they offer the largest collection of mobile music content available on the handset from the leading online music retailers. Dang! What will they do for an encore?

The Napster subscription, available for $14.95 a month, allows a user to fill their phone from their PC from over 2 million tracks. Cingular and Napster intend to offer a free 60-day trial of this service. Yahoo Music offers its service for about $11.99 per month, and offers a free Yahoo! Music Jukebox which allows customers to play, rip, and burn MP3s from their PC. The eMusic looks like it is only available to users of the Sony Ericsson W810i or W300i, but will enjoy a free "in-box" offer to load up to 40 songs from over 2 million tracks. The XM Satellite Radio will offer mobile access to audio streams of 25 popular commercial-free music channels at a low price of $8.99 a month.

The Cingular Music contains several menus options. The Music Player is where users can access the phone's entire catalog of music, and create playlists from all the songs, as well as a random play feature. Shop Music is where users go to purchase or explore music content from the music providers. MusicID allows a user to identify a song, and then purchase that song by linking to the Napster library. Music Videos offers a direct link to video content from MTV, VH1, CMT, and even original video footage from Cingular Sounds Live (CSL) Concert Series.
Streaming Music is when users listen to various genres of music content from XM Satellite Radio or MobiRadio. The Buzz is where users access Billboard Mobile, a mobile music application that gives Cingular customers access to music and entertainment news. The Community feature is made up of artist fan sites and chat rooms, and you can contact them through SMS and IM. The last is Music Apps, the home for other new and exciting music applications, including Mobilcast, a podcasting service.

The service is intended to be offered on five phones, including the Cingular SYNC, LG CU500, Sony Ericsson W810i, Sony Ericsson W300i, and Cingular 3125. The cost of Cingular Music depends on how many music subscriptions you want.

Cingular Sync Review

sync-hands-on-1.jpgThe good folks at EngadgetMobile were lucky enough to get their hands on
the Samsung SYNC aka SGH-A707. The handset scored brownie points
for its ergonomics, its price tag, its superb voice quality, the vibrant display and its overall performance. EngadgetMobile listed the Bluetooth Connectivity as the SYNC's Achilles heel as they couldn't pair up a couple of devices with it.

The Samsung SGH-A707 is a HSDPA handset which is exclusively
available on the Cingular network. Basting of a smart clamshell
design, the handset includes features like; a 2 megapixel camera, a
media player, support for MP3, WMA, AAC+, RealAudio and streaming
audio. One will also dig the , touch-sensitive external controls
and its brilliant QVGA display. A2DP and microSD expansion are some
other features found on the SYNC.

The review ends on a positive note and this is what Engadget has to
say about the Cingular SYNC "Our very quick, knee-jerk reaction is that this
is a great phone, and for $50 after rebate, it's pretty tough to go
wrong. Depending on the N75's pricing, it could be facing some
pretty stiff upmarket competition in the near term -- and the
torrent of 3G hardware should be pretty consistent heading into
2007 (we hope). But as we sit here in early November 2006, we can
say with some confidence that this is the best bang for your HSDPA
buck."

So apart from fast data speeds, what else does this clamshell phone has to offer us? The handset lives up to the Samsung tradition when it comes to dimensions as the phone just measures 17.5 mm and is housed in an elegant black/grey casing. there is a 2 megapixel camera and a MP3 Player which supports WMDRM (DRM for WMA)> Apart from MP3 audio, the phone also supports WMA, AAC AND RealAudio. Cingular LG CU500 3G Phone

cu500-1.jpgCingular Wireless has launched the new HSDPA-capable LG CU500 3G phone, along with the Cingular 3G network which uses the HSDPA and UMTS technology. CU500 touts an internal 65K color TFT with resolutions of 176 x 220 pixels and external 65K color TFT with resolutions of 96 x 96 pixels. The quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE phone sports a 1.3 megapixel rotating camera with video conferencing capability and it could zoom up to 4X (camera) or 2X (video). Taking a clear picture and video won't be a problem for CU500 because of its highest picture resolutions of 1280 x 960 and video resolutions of 320 x 240. You will be able to store up to 60 photos with the biggest resolutions size and 2,300 photos with resolutions of 160 x 120. 14 minutes of video recording should be enough: 15 fps @ 176 x 144. CU500 also features a music player with external controls, customizable equalizer and visualization. Fire up your CU500 for a small music party won't slow you down with the built-in dual speaker for 3D stereo sound. The support file formats for audio are MP3, WMA, AAC, ACC+ and video format is 3GP. I got to admit this phone is fully-packed with a bunch of additional features and capabilities such as microSDTM memory card slot, Bluetooth connectivity for the handset, hands-free, dial-up networking and advanced audio distribution, instant messenger (AOL, MSN Messenger, Yahoo Messenger and ICQ), voice memo recording, voice recognition capability and MobiTV & MobiRadio, you will be able to stream TV & digital radio service straight from the phone. You can record short music and send it over the service via the MusicID and it will reply you with the music title. The pre-installed personal organizer tools will just blow you away (Calendar with Scheduler, Alarm Clock, Notepad, Tasks, D-Day Counter, Calculator, Tip Calculator, World Clock, Stop Watch, Unit Converter, Date Finder) and the 500 entries of picture phonebooks would be able to store up to 5 numbers with 2 e-mail addresses each. When you on a flight you can always use the flight mode feature so it won't interrupt any networks. If you are looking for a superb multimedia phone then LG CU500 would be the best for you. It weights only 3.70 oz with the size of 3.80" x 1.95" x 0.76". No words on the pricing yet.

Cingular 2125 out for Cingular Wireless

Cingular 2125.jpg
Get this Phone Now for the
Best Price on the Internet!

Cingular Wireless is now carrying the Cingular 2125 Windows Smartphone. Of course this version of the HTC device has the infamous "hump" on top of the phone which supposedly improves reception at the expense of a slightly larger form factor.

Aside from the "hump", the 2125 features a Windows Mobile 5.0 OS, Windows Media Player 10, Bluetooth connectivity, a 1.3 megapixel camera and video recorder, GPRS/EDGE support, and quad band GSM support. You also get a large 2.2 inch TFT color screen, 64 MB of SDRAM and 64 MB of ROM as well as your usual package of mobile versions of Microsoft Office.

Inside the Cingular 2125 is a TI OMAP 850 200MHz processor which should be enough for everyday tasks. The 2125 replaces the Audiovox SMT 5600 which was brought over when Cingular purchased AT&T. You can purchase the 2125 for $299.99. Check out the product page here for more information. Via Krunker.com.

FCC approves Cingular's version of the HTC Tornado

HTC-Tornado.jpgThe FCC has approved the version of the HTC Tornado Windows Smartphone which will be heading to Cingular Wireless. It looks like this new Smartphone will be labeled the Cingular 2100 though that isn't quite confirmed yet.

The new phone will include the following features:

  • quad-band GSM support
  • 1.3 megapixel digital camera
  • Uses TI OMAP 850 processor running at 200MHz
  • 64MB of ROM, 64MB of RAM
  • 1150 MAH Lithium Ion Battery

Now what seems to be missing from the specs is WiFi support which is a shame but hardly unexpected. Check out PhoneArea for additional pictures. Here is the FCC page.
