Celestron SkyScout
Celestron's SkyScout Personal Planetarium has bagged the prestigious Best of Innovations honor by the Consumer Electronics Association. The SkyScout, a handheld celestial viewing device, will be on display at next month's CES.
The SkyScout is interesting: it can instantly identify or locate up to 6,000 celestial objects visible to the naked eye. Quite a useful little device for budding astronomers and students. Take along a telescope with you for hours of stargazing.
The device hardly weighs 16 oz. It's approximately the size of a camcorder. Just point it to any visible object in the sky and it can give you a running commentary. You can use the convenieng "locate" feature to search for an object, and the SkyScout will happily find it on the viewfinder using illuminated arrows.
Head over to the Celestron booth (#70613) at the CES for a demo, or check out more details from Celestron's website.
