Canon EOS 30D vs Panasonic DMC-L1 - A Quick Comparison
The Panasonic L1 as mentioned earlier is quiet different from the conventional SLRs, as it comes with an interchangeable lens. The look of the camera in itself is quiet different from other SLRs. It boasts of a classic design that will remind users of traditional analogue cameras, especially with the flash holder on the top. On the other hand, the Canon has got it's trade mark design matching today's trendy looks, which we have come to see in most Digital SLRs.

Some Common Features
Some common features include, both the SLR's are equipped with a 2.5" high-resolution LCD, which offers a shooting style different from other SLRs. Both the cameras have similar LCD resolutions, with Panasonic having 207,000 pixels LCD resolution while the Canon is powered by a LCD resolution of 230,000 pixels. Both cameras have gone in for an Optical zoom instead of Digital zoom, figures though are not specified for both of them as of now. About the compatibility, the Canon uses Compactflash cards and the Panasonic uses SD Memory Cards and both are also compatible with the mass-storage SD standard cards. On the connectivity side both feature a USB Hi-Speed and Video Out connectivity.
Canon EOS-30D
The Canon 30D is powered by a whopping 8.2 Megapixel resolution and bundles proven high performance technologies (such as seven-point, high-speed predictive auto focus, 2.5 frame per second burst rate, 35-zone metering and DIGIC image processor) into a camera affordable to everybody. It features an all new advanced PictBridge functionality, through which Lab-quality prints can now be produced without the need for a computer by just plugging it into the printer. It has CMOS sensor(22.7 x 15.1 mm). Users can choose from three image formats, RAW, RAW + JPEG and JPEG (EXIF 2.2). It includes Canon EF / EF-S lens mount 1.6x field of view crop. It incorporates DIGIC II processor, which is actually found across the digital EOS range. In addition it has Wireless File Transmitter WFT-E1. The Canon 30D will be available from March 2006, priced at(body only) £1099.99 RRP and $1399 USD.
Panasonic DMC-L1
Well, the Panasonic LUMIX camera has a resolution of 7.2 MegaPixel. Unlike the Canon 30D, it uses the 4/3-type Live MOS sensor, compared to canon's CMOS censor. On the contrary to Canon, the DMC-L1 includes Leica D Vario-Elmarit 14-50mm/F2.8-3.5 lens and incorporates the Venus Engine III, an image processing LSI that was newly developed to maximize the performance of the Live MOS sensor. It has Supersonic Wave Filter that serves as a dust reduction system, which is not found in the Canon SLR camera. Panasonic L1 features a shutter speed dial on top of the camera body. No announcement on price or release date yet, but we aren't expecting this fine camera to run cheap.
