Canon DC100 - The Super-Slim DVD Camcorder
Canon's new DC100 DVD camcorder is an entry-level camcorder that's packed with a decent set of features. As its name implies, the DC100 can record directly to a DVD. It accepts three-inch DVD-R/RW discs on which you can store up to 60 minutes of high-quality video. Make that 120 minutes if you are using a double-sided disc. Support for DVD-RW is a good thing because you can do some quick editing directly through the camcorder. The DC100 ensures that you are recording onto a blank part of the DVD.
Recording should be fun thanks to the DC100's 25x optical zoom and 1000x digital zoom capability. Canon's also packed in an image stabilizer that should eliminate any jitters and jerks while shooting. The Smooth Zoom Control option allows a choice of three fixed zoom speeds to eliminate any rapid zooms which can cause dizzying effects in your videos. There's also a Level Shot Control that helps you keep your videos aligned to ground level. There's a built-in lens cover as well. That should prove to be a very useful feature.

The DC100 also comes with Widescreen High Resolution (HR) 16:9 recording, which means you can enjoy full-screen videos on your widescreen TV at home. Canon's Widescreen HR is technically superior to that of its competitors. The display is a 2.7-inch widescreen panel that perfectly complements the Widescreen HR capability. It records sound in Dolby Digital Stereo. All in all, a great combination of features for a movie-theatre like experience. What's more you get all this in one super-slim package.
The DC100 should be out in the United States by the end of April 2006 for an estimated price of US$499. Canon is also exhibiting the DC100 at the Photo Marketing Association (PMA) event in Orlando, Fla., from February 26th - March 1st, 2006.
