Canon 30D Review

canon_30d_front.jpgCnet Reviews have put up their review about the Canon 30D Camera an upgrade to the ever popular EOS 20D. The upgrade version has enhancements like magnesium-alloy body, easy interface, customizable features and more importantly brilliant image resolution. However the battery life disappoints, the viewfinder isn’t big enough and at times the lens cast shadows. But overall it is a great camera no doubt. The Canon 30D has an 8 Mega Pixel Sensor and a 2.5 inch LCD monitor. Another good point of this camera is that Canon has increased the number of sequential frames that can be captured in continuous-shooting mode to 30 JPEG or 11 raw shots, from 23 or 6, respectively. Shooting Programs include Close-up, Landscape, Sports mode, Portrait mode, Night portrait and Exposure Mode includes Bulb, Manual, Program, Automatic, Depth-of-field, Shutter-priority, Aperture-priority, E-TTL II program flash. The minimum shutter speed is 1/30 sec while the maximum is 1/8000 sec. Also Canon rates the shutter durability on this model for as much as 100,000 cycles something which is rarely seen.

Cnet Finally concludes by saying “There are a few aspects of the 30D that Canon didn't change but that could have used an update. The battery didn't last for the length of one of my shooting sessions, or about 250 photos. The lens still casts a shadow when using the onboard flash at wide-angle focal lengths with some lenses. And the viewfinder still shows only 95 percent of the scene. Nonetheless, it remains the top-notch model that the 20D was.”

Canon EOS 30D vs Panasonic DMC-L1 - A Quick Comparison

Well, you must have read a few days back about Panasonic's new LUMIX DMC-L1 digital SLR and Canon's EOS-30D Digital SLR digital cameras, introduced at PMA, so lets do a bit of a comparission and take a closer look at these two great new SLRs.

The Panasonic L1 as mentioned earlier is quiet different from the conventional SLRs, as it comes with an interchangeable lens. The look of the camera in itself is quiet different from other SLRs. It boasts of a classic design that will remind users of traditional analogue cameras, especially with the flash holder on the top. On the other hand, the Canon has got it's trade mark design matching today's trendy looks, which we have come to see in most Digital SLRs.
    panasonic_l1.jpg
    Some Common Features
Some common features include, both the SLR's are equipped with a 2.5" high-resolution LCD, which offers a shooting style different from other SLRs. Both the cameras have similar LCD resolutions, with Panasonic having 207,000 pixels LCD resolution while the Canon is powered by a LCD resolution of 230,000 pixels. Both cameras have gone in for an Optical zoom instead of Digital zoom, figures though are not specified for both of them as of now. About the compatibility, the Canon uses Compactflash cards and the Panasonic uses SD Memory Cards and both are also compatible with the mass-storage SD standard cards. On the connectivity side both feature a USB Hi-Speed and Video Out connectivity.

    canon-eos-30d.jpgCanon EOS-30D
The Canon 30D is powered by a whopping 8.2 Megapixel resolution and bundles proven high performance technologies (such as seven-point, high-speed predictive auto focus, 2.5 frame per second burst rate, 35-zone metering and DIGIC image processor) into a camera affordable to everybody. It features an all new advanced PictBridge functionality, through which Lab-quality prints can now be produced without the need for a computer by just plugging it into the printer. It has CMOS sensor(22.7 x 15.1 mm). Users can choose from three image formats, RAW, RAW + JPEG and JPEG (EXIF 2.2). It includes Canon EF / EF-S lens mount 1.6x field of view crop. It incorporates DIGIC II processor, which is actually found across the digital EOS range. In addition it has Wireless File Transmitter WFT-E1. The Canon 30D will be available from March 2006, priced at(body only) £1099.99 RRP and $1399 USD.

    Panasonic DMC-L1
Well, the Panasonic LUMIX camera has a resolution of 7.2 MegaPixel. Unlike the Canon 30D, it uses the 4/3-type Live MOS sensor, compared to canon's CMOS censor. On the contrary to Canon, the DMC-L1 includes Leica D Vario-Elmarit 14-50mm/F2.8-3.5 lens and incorporates the Venus Engine III, an image processing LSI that was newly developed to maximize the performance of the Live MOS sensor. It has Supersonic Wave Filter that serves as a dust reduction system, which is not found in the Canon SLR camera. Panasonic L1 features a shutter speed dial on top of the camera body. No announcement on price or release date yet, but we aren't expecting this fine camera to run cheap.

Canon EOS 35D Digital SLR Camera Rumor

Rumored Canon EOS 35D Digital SLR CameraCan anyone confirm if this is Canon's latest toy, the Canon EOS 35D? Last month saw the rumors emerging, but the photos available on the Internet now look more convincing than ever.

It could be announced as early as the 21st of this month at an Oslo press conference. The Canon EOS 35D is believed to be a 10-megapixel SLR. From first looks, I'd say that thing looks heavy. Let's hope it's not really as bad as it looks.

Coming from Canon, I have a few neat expectations. It remains to be seen if they get fulfilled. Like for starters, how about an invitation to that press release where we all get to play with this baby?

Check back with us soon for more details. Additional details can be reached online at Canon's website.
