Canon EOS 400D

canon_eos_400d_zoom.jpgThough the US Canon company has not released an official announcement or confirmation; rumors have been flying all afternoon- of a new 35 mm Canon DSLR hitting the market, and details made public on the Chinese Canon website seem more than confirmation for the EOS400D.

Today’s details translated via bot (why don’t we have translators on hand for this?), suggest the EOS400D will surpass all prior entry level SLR models- with a new incorporated CMOS image sensor featuring 10.1 effective Megapixels, a large 2.5-inch LCD monitor, an integrated ultrasonic dust removal system, a 1600 ISO setting, a DIGIC II processor, comes with the Canon EF lens mount, and offers the same high-precision 9-point auto focus as its earlier 30D model.

This work of technological innovation will feature an APS-C (classic film) size 22.2 x 14.8 mm CMOS image sensor, providing a focal length of 1.6x, with its 10.1 million effective Megapixels, creating distinctive shots with high resolutions of 3888 x 2592 pixels and dynamic ISO ranges of 100 – 1600.

The new feature in the Canon EOS 400D is the integrated dust removal system, functioning on three levels. At startup (.2 second startup at that!), the Canon 400D removes dust via ultrasound vibration (can be interrupted at any time by pressing the shutter release), also via calculation using included software (Digital Photo Professional 2.2), and the obvious manual method where the mirror is locked to open shutter curtain- for blowing away any sensor located dust.

The 2.5 inch LCD back monitor maximizes on display brightness by providing 230,000 pixels on screen, and allows the photographer to choose from a variety of photo styles including settings like portrait, landscape, neutral, etc. The Canon EOS 400D’s speedy performance allows for 3 frames per second shots, with a maximum of 27 JPEG or 10 RAW format photos. Shutter speed ranges from is B + 30 - 1/4000 sec and flash sync speed is 1/200 seconds. For easy editing, printing, and distribution, the EOS400D’s high speed USB 2.0 interface can be hooked up to necessary device.

No price or release date, as were still waiting for “official” confirmation.

Canon XH G1 and XH A1 HDV Camcorders

Canon-XH-G1-vanity.jpgCanon has released their first line up of HDV camcorders, the XH G1 and XH A1 and many feel that Canon took its own sweet time on this. Well as they say, better late than never! The imaging system of the these new camcorders is similar to the Canon' XL H1 and has the same three 1/3-inch 16:9 CCDs. The new camcorders have the ability to record 1080i video in both 60 interlaced and 24 frame rate modes. However unlike the XL-H1, the new camcorders are cheaper and sleeker.

The new HDV camcorders are almost identical and the only thing that sets the camcorders apart is the I/O ports and $3000 price difference! These entry level prosumer camcorders will appeal to the independent film makers who couldn’t afford the exorbitant XL H1 and Canon hopes to capture this growing demographic. The new XH G1 and XH A1 do not support interchangeable lenses and the three 1/3-inch CCD sensors offer native 16:9 with a resolution of 1440 x 1080. The camcorders feature 24 fields per second shooting mode and the frame rates are available in either 2:3 or 2:3:3:2 pull-down apart from the standard scan rates of 30f and 60i.

Both XH G1 and XH A1 are equipped with a DIGIC DV II processor which not only reduces noise but also is responsible for enhanced color and tonal response. The camcorders sport a 20x optical HD lens made of Fluorite glass and Ultra-Low Dispersion glass and has a focal range of 32.5mm – 650mm (35mm equivalent). On the lens itself you will find three rings which controls focus, zoom, and iris and thanks to the upper Range optical image stabilization, you can say goodbye to blurry and unfocused videos.

One feature which is missing on the XH A1 and present on the XH G1 is the new and improved SD/HD-SDI which combines the audio, the video and the time code signal whereas you need a separate audio connection for the XH A1.The SD and HD-SDI outputs are SMPTE compliant and makes it easier higher end news gathering and film markets. Some other features found on both camcorders include ; their ability to store up to 9 custom pre-sets, a LCD which can be customized and the ability to store information on the SD Cards. Both camcorders sport a 2.8-inch widescreen LCD (207K resolution) and a 0.57-inch color electronic viewfinder (269K resolution).

One also finds functions like auto mode, full manual mode, and aperture and shutter priority modes on both the camcorders apart from two built-in ND filters, at 1/6 and 1/32. There is new AF System on the new camcorders which enhances focal effectiveness and reduces focal time. Surprisingly the camcorders also have a bunch of audio controls like and it is quite capable of producing still images too. Still images can be viewed or saved in 16:9 aspect ratio sizes, 1920 x 1080 (2MP) and 848 x 480, and two 4:3 aspect ratio sizes, 1440 x 1080 and 640 x 480. One can also access options like Continuous Shooting, Hi-Speed Continuous Shooting, Bracketing and three metering modes for still images. The Canon XH A1 will be released in late October for an MSRP of $3999 and the mid-November at an MSRP of $6999.

    Canon DC100 - The Super-Slim DVD Camcorder

Canon DC100 - The Super-Slim DVD CamcorderCanon's new DC100 DVD camcorder is an entry-level camcorder that's packed with a decent set of features. As its name implies, the DC100 can record directly to a DVD. It accepts three-inch DVD-R/RW discs on which you can store up to 60 minutes of high-quality video. Make that 120 minutes if you are using a double-sided disc. Support for DVD-RW is a good thing because you can do some quick editing directly through the camcorder. The DC100 ensures that you are recording onto a blank part of the DVD.

Recording should be fun thanks to the DC100's 25x optical zoom and 1000x digital zoom capability. Canon's also packed in an image stabilizer that should eliminate any jitters and jerks while shooting. The Smooth Zoom Control option allows a choice of three fixed zoom speeds to eliminate any rapid zooms which can cause dizzying effects in your videos. There's also a Level Shot Control that helps you keep your videos aligned to ground level. There's a built-in lens cover as well. That should prove to be a very useful feature.

    Canon DC100 - The Super-Slim DVD Camcorder

The DC100 also comes with Widescreen High Resolution (HR) 16:9 recording, which means you can enjoy full-screen videos on your widescreen TV at home. Canon's Widescreen HR is technically superior to that of its competitors. The display is a 2.7-inch widescreen panel that perfectly complements the Widescreen HR capability. It records sound in Dolby Digital Stereo. All in all, a great combination of features for a movie-theatre like experience. What's more you get all this in one super-slim package.

The DC100 should be out in the United States by the end of April 2006 for an estimated price of US$499. Canon is also exhibiting the DC100 at the Photo Marketing Association (PMA) event in Orlando, Fla., from February 26th - March 1st, 2006.

    Canon Optura 50 Camcorder Review

Canon Optura 50 Camcordercamcorderinfo.com Review the Canon Optura 50 Camcorder and they say-"The Optura 50 would make a strong contender for best camcorder in its price class (retail $799, street prices around $600), were it not for the absence of a few really useful features found on its big sister model, the Optura 60. Missing the the active accessory shoe, and the better zoom (10x down from 14x), the Optura 50 seems like a questionable better value at a hundred bucks less. While the Optura 50 is a a downgrade from the 60, it’s a still solid piece of work, so let’s take a closer look...."

The ZR400 features nearly the same CCD as found on this year’s Elura models: a 1/4.5-inch CCD with 1.33 MP (690K effective for video, 1.0 MP for stills).
