%21cid_image004.jpg%4001C6CDB0%5B1%5DAustralia’s E-sporting elite are set to descend upon the Gold Coast Convention Centre this weekend to battle it out in Australia’s World Cyber Games Final – the nation’s premier competitive PC and video gaming event. Sponsored by Samsung, this rapidly growing e-Olympics sees nearly one million players compete globally for the title of world gaming champion. And, this year’s 2006 World Cyber Games is set to be more competitive than ever!

Forget Thorpie or the Oarsome Foursome – Australia’s greatest e-champions including worldwide Warcraft competitor “Philbot” and national CounterStrike champions “Team Style”, who are set to fight it out for the chance to compete at the Games’ international finals in Monza, Italy from 18-22 October, 2006.

“The World Cyber Games is in its 6th year in Australia and 2006 has seen the heats take place everywhere from netcafes to boats to The Australian Technology Park,” said event organiser and gaming enthusiast, Karl Brown. “Action has been amped up another step with the tournaments running over 3 days in an event that is set to be one of Australia's best ever”.

Offering competitions in Xbox 360 and PC Gaming formats, players will compete using a compendium of titles including Counter-Strike, Warcraft, FIFA, Project Gotham Racing and Starcraft to name a few.

As the market leader in LCD panel technology, and as the HDTV partner for Microsoft Xbox 360, Samsung have long had a strong affinity with the gaming community.

“The enjoyment that comes from the digital home entertainment experience is at the heart of Samsung’s long-running involvement in World Cyber Games,” says Samsung’s General Manager – Corporate Marketing Kurt Jovais. “Not only will this year’s gamers get the chance to compete in the country’s biggest gaming championship, but also they’ll have the exciting opportunity to preview the latest in Samsung’s visual display products that amplify the gaming experience to make images more realistic and immersive”.

The next-generation pairing of the Samsung R7 HD-built-in LCD TV and next-generation Xbox 360 HD gaming console delivers the most advanced and realistic high-definition experience to gamers worldwide. All Xbox 360 championship events will be played on the Samsung R7, elevating the video game and entertainment system to the next level.

These gaming enthusiasts will no doubt appreciate the sharper details, deeper contrast and rich sound that are standard on a Samsung HDTV, and further enhanced by Samsung’s “Game Mode” optimised for Xbox 360. Samsung’s LCD TV’s feature Samsung’s proprietary Digital Natural Image Engine (DNIe) technology, which enhances picture density by six times. Coupled with a dynamic contrast ratio of 3000:1, a 8ms refresh rate, colour optimiser and motion optimiser, the result is startlingly sharp, with lifelike images. On an audio level, Samsung's HDTV built-in speakers emulate the most realistic surround sound using SRS Tru-surround XT so the action of the final battle or race in the closing second will feel even closer.

The PC game competitions will be played on the new Samsung 931C monitor, specially selected as the best LCD monitor choice for gamers. The 931C has a 2ms refresh rate, fast enough to satisfy the most demanding of professional gamers. The monitor uses a unique CCFL (Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp) technology that allows it to reproduce a broader range of colours than other monitors.

Held on an annual basis since 2000, the World Cyber Games has continued to set the standard in global game competitions as well as provide comprehensive and fun game-related content to the world.
